Panthers Steve Smith Confronts a WFNZ Producer

Steve Smith Had a Few Choice Words for Travis "T-Bone" Hancock

Recently Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith confronted Travis "T-Bone" Hancock of WFNZ's successful "Mac Attack" morning sports radio show. Both Steve Smith and T-Bone were at Panther's tackle, Jordan Gross's charity kickball game to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis which Jordan's niece has.

T-Bone is the producer of the "Mac Attack" and in the recent trade talk about Steve Smith had called Smith a "Headache" and that "Santana Moss could replace Smith." Steve Smith has been a guest on the "Mac Attack" in the past and said his brother listened to the show and didn't like some of the comments about Steve Smith.

At the kickball game Steve Smith confronted T-Bone and went off on him. It has been mentioned by callers to WFNZ that Charlotte media kissed up to Smith and or was afraid of him. Perhaps there is some truth to that if they have to worry about Steve Smith jumping in their face when he does not like his press.

Last year Steve Smith had a brief feud with Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com over something Florio had written about him. Smith blasted Florio on the "Mac Attack" and mentioned that he makes more money than Florio. Mike Florio is a weekly guest on the "Mac Attack" but refused to go on the air with Smith to keep from escalating the incident.

It is a shame that Steve Smith may leave stuff like this as his legacy. It is probable that either Julius Peppers or Steve Smith is the best player the Carolina Panthers ever put on the field. Yes Reggie White was a Panther but only when past his prime.

Steve Smith wasn't supposed to be a multiple time Pro Bowl wide receiver when he was drafted out of Utah. He was too short and not talented enough to be more than a returner. Well actually he wasn't and Steve Smith worked his ass off to make himself into a dynamic playmaker. If Steve Smith had played in a passing offense with a great quarterback, he would have Hall of Fame numbers. Instead he was stuck in a run first offense with Jake Delhomme, Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore.

The same drive to make Steve Smith a great player is what probably causes him to get in trouble with his temper from time to time. Steve Smith wants to win and he wants to win now and I expect and hope the Panthers trade him to a team with a shot at a Super Bowl win.
