Pants on the Ground Becomes Vikings' Victory Song

Brett Favre promised Percy Harvin that he would perform his own rendition of Pants on the Ground, made famous in American Idol auditions in 2010. The Vikings played tough and did in fact beat the Dallas Cowboys. They killed them 34-3, leaving the Cowboys with their "pants on the ground" so to speak. Fox TV caught his victory chant in the locker room after the game. SEE FULL VIDEO ON YOUTUBE.

The song was originated and sung on American Idol by a man in his 60s named Larry Platt. He calls himself "General Platt," which is no surprise to me because the song sounds more like a military marching chant than a mainstream hip hop song.

Simon Cowell said he could see the song becoming very popular and, as always, he was right. The song has gained some serious media attention, and it is catching on with viewers everywhere. Some people have added written lyrics to the original performance so people know what is being said. There are a few remixes as well that have added musical remix to the song, complete with record scratching, back beats, and repeated phrases.

One producer, Fremantle Media Enterprises, Fox, Nappy Boy, Konvict, and Jive produced a full version of the song with additional rap and somewhat explicit lyrics (not too bad, though) called PANTS ON THE GROUND (REMIX) - LARRY PLATT AND D-PRYDE. The song is very creative and will probably take off just from the popularity it has seen from the American Idol exposure.

While most people I have talked to are finding the song comical, there were a few people offended by the song. According to the Huffington Post the "University of Minnesota's Davis Logsdon, who has been conducting a yearlong survey of the attitudes of people who wear their trousers in a droopy manner, the song is 'no laughing matter to the millions of Americans' who actually wear their pants on the ground. The survey asked individuals, who wear their pants this way, if the song offended them. Surprisingly some people agreed that the song was offensive. Perhaps they should do a survey of the number of people in America who are offended by the way they wear their pants, down at their knees with their underwear hanging out or their bottoms exposed. I think the Dallas Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking would have been offended with Brett Favre's chant in the locker room, especially after the way he reacted to the final touchdown in the game. Keith Brooking said it was "classless" for the Vikings to score the final touchdown with such a huge lead against them. The Vikings stuck a fork in the Cowboys, they were done, and Brooking reacted defensively. READ FULL STORY ON HIS REACTION. Imaging his response if Brett Favre had started his chanting on the field. Now that is comedy.
