Pants on the Ground - Eight Versions of the Song You Have to Hear

Rap, Rock, Acoustic, Epic - Even Locker Room

Elle
After Season 9 of American Idol auditions in Atlanta, America has become obsessed with the song and lyrics of Pants on the Ground, performed by General Larry Platt. The 62-year-old man who, despite audition age requirements, appeared before Simon Cowell and the panel of judges to sing a song and deliver a message to young Americans everywhere. His message was poetic, but simple and clear. Pull your pants up people.

After Larry Platt's odd but witty performance, Simon Cowell said, "I have a horrible feeling that song could be a hit." Simon was either correct, or he started a huge trend. Musicians and Rappers everywhere started composing their own versions of the song, some to get noticed for their musical talents and others for their comical abilities.

I took the liberty of sorting through the You Tube videos, which were posted within 10 days after the Pants on the Ground episode aired on January 13, 2010. More than 8,500 videos associated with the song were posted by January 22, including remixes, acoustic versions, epic style renditions, and even an NFL locker room version by quarterback Brett Favre of the Minnesota Vikings.

Here are eight of the best, and most popular versions of the song.

REMIX VERSIONS

DeStorm & Larry Platt - This is a funny remix with full accompaniment. The lyrics are creative and clean. My favorite part of the song is when DeStorm sings, "Pull the gold fronts out ya mouth, 'specially if your not from the South, It looks burnt out."

D-Pryde and General Larry Platt Remix - This is another creative rap version of the song but it's not as clean as DeStorm's Version. The music sounds similar to that of Fergie's song "London Bridge."

LOCKER ROOM VERSION

Brett Favre and The Minnesota Vikings, Locker Room Version - This video became a huge hit when Fox media was recording the Vikings in the locker room after their victory against the Dallas Cowboys in the 2010 NFL Playoffs.

EPIC RAP VERSION

The Jesus and Eminem Comedy Version - HOLY RAP! This version is funny. The music and vocals have a holistic sound with a juicy rap that will make you laugh. The lyrics are very creative and the video is really funny. It is a "Jack Douglas" video by "jacksfilms." YOU MUST SEE THIS ONE!

CLASSIC ROCK VERSION

Comedian Jimmy Fallon sings in the style of Neil Young - Jimmy Fallon performs a very creative version of the song with guitar and harmonica on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Show. He sounds just like Neil Young when he sings Heart of Gold.

ROCK VERSION

The Rolling Stones/Jimmy Hendrix Version- The music in this video was awesome, but the vocalist wasn't confident about the lyrics and didn't add anything special to the original words. Dustin Smith plays guitar and sings while Alex Snow plays bass and adds additional vocals with Alex Drain on the drums. They play really well but according to their video, their band has "no name."

ACOUSTIC VERSION

Brent Morgan Guitar with Music (almost acoustic) - The Brent Morgan Version has creative lyrics and a full-accompanied sound. His smooth vocals almost have a Kris Allen or Rob Thomas feel. This is unique, but not sure it is the best version.

Jackie Tohn Acoustic - American Idol, Season 8 semi-finalist Jackie Tohn composed an unusual and unique version of her own and played acoustic guitar with a broken pointer finger, which I thought was talented enough in itself to warrant being added to this list. Her vocals were amazing, but she didn't really add much originality to the lyrics.
