If you caught American Idol season 9 during its Atlanta, Georgia Audition show, then you most likely know about General Larry Platt. Even if you didn't see his catchy "Pants on the Ground" tune demonstrated there, you most likely have seen it via YouTube, The View, CNN, or your local news program. The self-written song about getting your pants off the ground has made Larry Platt into an overnight hit, prompting what could be a lucrative Pants on the Ground record deal for the 62-year-old Idol audition contestant.

According to recent news reports, Larry Platt has been offered a record deal by Jake Records. That means his "Pants on the Ground" theme song could be turned into an actual hit single to scorch up the Billboard charts sooner than later. CEO Scott Thomas of Jake Records has called Larry Platt "infectious" with his energy, saying they'd love to work with Platt. The CEO goes on to say they want to help Platt get exposure, which he seems to be getting plenty of online, but they also want to help Platt with his various causes, which include his civil rights activism. In case you haven't heard of Jake Records, they have a Myspace profile set up, with mostly unknown hip hop musicians profiled (no disrespect to Myrical Child or Westside Bugg). There are a few names you may have heard of such as Digital Underground (famous for "The Humpty Dance" and it's member Shock G though.

Simon Cowell, the traditionally critical and sometimes extremely harsh AI judge, told Platt "thank you, that's enough" several times but Platt kept going with his singing and dancing. Simon even admitted that he strangely believed the song could become a hit. Simon knows musical talent too. Just remember back to last year with another internet success story via YouTube named Susan Boyle. Platt and Boyle are both old, but both appear to have their, fame and bank accounts increasing.

Once again the American Idol news, a new superstar has been launched all with thanks to the viral spread of video and information on the internet. With a Pants on the Ground record deal, it looks like Larry Platt will follow in the footsteps of William Hung, another former Idol contestant who never made it past auditions. Platt has an excuse though, as he wasn't old enough to move on. General Larry Platt is 62, and the age max appears to be 28 for Idol. And even though Platt doesn't fit that requirement, he certainly has the talent to be a major star in 2010.
