Pants on the Ground: Truth About Man Who Wrote It

American Idol has done it again! "General" Larry Platt tried out for American Idol, several years over the age limit, and became an instant star. His song "Pants on the Ground" was not only hilarious, but it resonated with parents too. What more could you ask from your artist? Something that makes the kids laugh and is accepted by the parents.

As I was watching the show I thought it was hilarious that American Idol let some nut job off the street that is 63 years old come in and sing some ridiculous song. But the truth of the matter is that Platt is not just some nut job off the street. In fact, he's a very intelligent civil rights activist and street performer.

Platt recently made a appearance on The View and they had a serious conversation about the matter. This ordeal reminds me of the Cosby speech from a view years ago when he rapped on the youth for sagging pants and hats off to the side. Platt says he got his inspiration one day when he saw a man walking down the street with his pants sagging and sucking on a baby bottle.

The song has even made it into the Minnesota Vikings locker room, where Brett Favre was singing it to get his team pumped up.

Platt along with many other African Americans, including Borack Obama, are upset with the black youth and their lack of respect with themselves and their relatives when it comes to the way they dress. Obama said ""Brothers should pull up their pants. You are walking by your mother, your grandmother, your underwear is showing. What's wrong with that? Come on," when he made an appearence on MTV.

"General" Larry Platt, intentionally or unintentionally, made a great PR move by trying out for American Idol, and the incident resonates even harder with it's proximity to Martin Luther King Day. Platt says he intends to keep pushing his views in an attempt to further civil rights and the views of African-Americans.
