Papa Ray's Opens in Uptown

Myself and my co-workers kept hearing about the new Papa Ray's Pizza that was soon to be opening in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Located at 4757 North Sheridan Road in Chicago, it seems like it would never open. Although not in close proximity to our work location, we left a little early one day so that we could have lunch there.

In fact, one of my co-workers lives in the Uptown neighborhood and was excited to share a few of the coupons that she had received as part of a marketing campaign. I had actually been to the Logan Square location on Fullerton Avenue and got the pizza, which was amazing.

When we got there, we sort of agreed to order the largest pizza they offered, but after thinking about it, we decided to order individually, since a few of us had already been to the Fullerton Avenue store and had the pizza there. I ordered the Calzone, which is kind of like of large pizza enclosed in puff pastry. Sometimes, I've found that Calzones are too dry inside, but Papa Ray's Calzone was loaded with sauce -- just the way I like it. The crust was crispy and flaky and the sauce had a sweet hint to it. We also ordered some chicken wings, which we just spicy enough, but not too hot. They didn't taste like your everyday frozen chicken wings. I've had those a hundred times, but Papa Ray's were different.

I love the seating style with their cute stools and narrow-ish counter that has pages of the daily newspaper tacked to the wall, which is eye-level from where you're sitting so that you can read the day's news while you're eating.
