Paparazzi: Big Pictures and Darryn Lyon's Million Dollar Empire

BBC America's Documentary on Paparazzi

Joyce Hewitt

The world is captivated by the lives of those that we see in movies, on T.V., and the voices of the music that we listen to everyday. Why are people so drawn to celebrities? Is it the money and the power? The beauty? Maybe we are drawn to the idea of a glamorous lifestyle full of endless attention, designer labels, and the thought of never having to worry about money again. The world sometimes seems to thrive around the gossip of stars like Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie, Sienna Miller, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Anniston. Their lives are all over the latest magazine issue, news, and in celebrity tabloids.

Darryn Lyons saw the potential in the celebrity craze that was going on before his eyes, and took his love of photography to start his own business. He saw potential in making money from celebrity pictures, and his idea soared into a multi-million dollar business which is known as Big Pictures. His agency is now one of the world's largest paparazzi agencies. Big Pictures now has several offices around the world. One in Los Angeles, New York, Sydney, and London.

BBC America now has a documentary about the life of Darryn Lyons, and his Paparazzi business Big Pictures. The show takes you into the life of Darryn Lyons, and his paparazzi on their quest to get the latest celebrity picture, along with the celebrity gossip to go along with the photo. Go on a wild Paparazzi celebrity chase and experience the difficulties and obstacles that they come across while trying to take the perfect snapshot. On the last episode of Paparazzi they try to capture the saga that is going on between Sienna Miller and Jude Law. They follow Sienna Miller around London, to Venice and back to London to capture her every move. The Paparazzi encounter several problems with Sienna's security, when they follow her to her residence. Sienna Miller is more than frustrated with the constant camera in her face, and can't seem to get away. She kicks a fellow Paparazzi after he chases her down a street in London.

The Paparazzi don't just follow any celebrity, they make it a point to capture pictures of celebrities that are going through some sort of drama with their personal lives. Seems the best way for celebrities to stay out of the Paparazzi light, is to stay quiet, and out of sight. It always seems to be the same celebrities that we see in all the tabloids. Is this because they are attracting attention to themselves purposely to gain more publicity? You have to wonder when you see the same pictures over and over again of the same celebrities.

Darryn Lyons has turned Big Pictures into a huge success and is only going to grow bigger with the constant need for celebrity gossip. The celebrities are not going anywhere, they are only getting bigger, and so will Big Pictures. The next time you see that shocking celebrity picture, you can be sure that it came from one of Darryn Lyons fellow Paparazzi.
