Paper Clip Prey

Writing, rewriting, and such,

When "Perfection!" I cried. I was brimming with pride

As I added the finishing touch.

Huh? What the $%^&? Where did it go?

It was here a second ago!

This took me all day! Why is my screen all gray?

Now it's gone? I've got nothing to show?

I told myself to take a deep breath,

There must be a way to recover...

I'll just click right here and help will appear.

Not quite so, I am soon to discover.

A paper clip man with blinky eyes and a grin

Appeared on my screen to assist.

He began scratching his head, and brought me instead

To some ridiculous "How To" list.

He bossed me around until I found

I was pretty much on my own.

He just sat there and wiggled, and I swear he giggled

As I searched the cyber unknown.

What's auto recovery? Do I have it checked?

Well, how the hell would I know that?

What box? Where? It isn't there!

Quit smiling, you paper clip gnat!

Mother of God, he says search again!

Just what do you think I've been doing?

Don't laugh at me you useless flea,
