Paper Graduation Caps that Kindergarten Kids Can Make

Do you remember walking your son to his first day of kindergarten? The tears that welled up in his eyes, and he didn't want to let go of your hand?

Fast forward a year later, and he's ready to graduate from kindergarten. After that first traumatic day, he made friends, learned the alphabet, and can even count to one hundred.

As he proudly walks down that aisle to receive his diploma, he'll be wearing a paper graduation cap that he helped make.

This article will show you how to make a paper graduation cap for that special, independent, kindergarten child who is about to enter first grade. They'll be a fun graduation cap project at the end.

Recyclable cardboard squares will make a sturdy top for the cap. While your child is cutting out cardboard squares, you can explain to him that this cardboard is eco-friendly. Their imaginations can run wild as they decorate the square. You can suggest a decorated piece of glued fabric as an alternative, but most kids aren't going to pass up a chance to go wild with crayons or colored markers. After decorating the square, set aside and start on the bottom.

Construction paper comes in a variety of colors and is sturdy enough for your bottom piece. Let your child pick out the color and use child-sized scissors to cut strips from the construction paper. The strips should be about three inches thick, and long enough to go around their head.

Fold over a small area of the strip, about 2 centimeters, and apply glue under the folded up area. Glue this piece to the under part of the cap top.

Have your child try the cap on again after it's finished. It's fun to coordinate the paper graduation cap with an outfit that matches the color.

Here's a graduation cap that all kids like, and so will their parents. Take a sturdy paper plate and place a miniature peanut butter cup on it with the bottom up. Top with a small dollop of smooth peanut butter, and then press down on a chocolate graham cracker. Use a tightly rolled up square of fruit leather for the tassel. Cut fringe on one end. Put another dab of peanut butter on the center of the graham cracker. This dab of peanut butter will be used to attach the other end of the fringe.

The important thing is just to have fun and make it a bonding experience between you and your child.
