Paper Love

Tanja Meece
Once upon a time . . .
opening drawers I would find
memories of my valentines'
love.

Trinkets and pins and paper
From loves long lost.

Where did they go?
I often wonder
When the heart shaped boxes and candies
Appear on the shelves around me.

Would they know me in a crowd?
Remember my name?
Am I the same person I was?
Would they still like me?

Did they become
Who they wanted to be
When we parted ways and grades?

Are they men
Or still boys
Who have lost their ways
In the tunnels of living?
Where are they now?
