However, if you glean a perversely titillating pleasure from being terrified-or if you have an odd personal interest in the paranormal, demonic, or haunting-or if you are in the mood to get into the spirit of the Halloween season a little early, then Paranormal Activity just might be for you.

It inhabits the kind of psychological horror that creeps forth at its own pace, slowly but surely infiltrating the psyche. At first, I felt as if the events of the film were unfolding too slowly and I was not gripped by fear from the get go, but the steady progression of paranormal deviance grew into a more & more palpable form until I was overtaken. While I was lying in bed last night, I found my mind replaying certain troubling details from the film. I kept getting startled awake, thinking that I had heard something strange or glimpsed something weird on the periphery. The uneasiness-generating content of Paranormal Activity was still permeating my subconscious and having a creepy delayed effect.
