Paranormal Research - a World of Ghosts

What is a Ghost Hunter?

shadows
Paranormal research has been around since the beginning of time. Perhaps it is our natural curiosity of the unknown that lures us into wanting answers. T.A.P.S or The Atlantic Paranormal Society is quite possibly one of the most known, and organized research groups today. However, most cities have their own paranormal research teams, also known as ghost hunters.

It's not uncommon for a person to believe their home, or place of business is haunted. It appears that ghost stories, are no longer just told around a camp fire. With countless man hours of research worldwide, and with millions of personal experiences recorded, the question remains "are ghosts real?" Thomas Edison believed they were. In fact one of his last inventions that he was working on before his death, was a machine that would allow us to see, and communicate with the dead. Unfortunately this invention was never completed.

Even though Edison's invention didn't make it to market, there are several devices sold today, that are used by paranormal investigators. These include EMF detection meters, thermal scanners, digital cameras, 35 mm cameras, camcorders, portable infrared motion sensors, and more. This easy to find equipment allows even the most inexperienced person to become an amateur ghost hunter.

There is several rules, and regulations to paranormal research that one should know before setting out on an investigation. First off, you will need to expect the physical hazards that come with the job. Walking around in the dark isn't easy, you can expect bumps, bruises, and even worst at times. Only wear dark clothing when doing an investigation. This is a dangerous risk, especially if your investigation is outdoors. Light clothing will reflect light, and could discredit any questionable photo's you capture. Be prepared to be bored. Ghost hunting isn't always fun, it takes hours of looking over film, and photo's after the job is done. And, the most important rule is to be careful. You might be setting yourself up for lawsuits, or even jail time, Make sure you have the owners written permission before you do anything.

Paranormal research is more of hobby then a job, and it can be lots of fun. However not knowing what your doing, comes hand in hand with trouble, If you'd like to do some ghost hunting, I suggest you find a local chapter in your area to join. This way you will have experienced help, and more then likely get more investigations under your belt. Most groups are free to join, or have a low yearly membership fee that is reasonable.

If your on the other side of the fence, and have what you believe to be paranormal activity that you'd like researched, and documented, you should contact a local group as well. More then likely, with your consent, they will be willing to do an investigation for you. Most groups will do it for free, while others might ask for a small donation. Either way it is hundreds of dollars less then buying equipment to do one investigation.
