Parasites and Monsters Inside me

I love the show 'Monsters inside Me' on the Animal Planet. Before watching this show I have never really thought about all the creepy crawly things that are around us on a daily basis waiting to wreak havoc on us. The show "Monsters Inside me" reveals there are parasites, which a human can pick up in every place imaginable.

Once inside the body, these parasites can do all sorts of damage, such as making a person blind, seizures and is some extreme cases a victim will die. The parasites can cause all sorts of symptoms that at first may appear more annoying than painful until the parasites decide to go into overdrive, the victim becomes very ill, and the situation becomes life threatening.

The deer tick and bed bugs are the parasites that most people have heard of but there are many different types of parasites, which can harm us. Some people have also heard of a tapeworm, which can be found on an infected pig, but do you realize that a tapeworm can travel up into your brain and eat it?

Most of these parasites enter our bodies when we eat contaminated food but when we play in or drink contaminated water we can also pick up a host of monsters. The first show I ever watched of this series was a man in Nepal who was drinking from a stream of water and a parasite went in his nose. There is also a show of a young girl who was bitten by a fly that was infected with something on the bottom of her foot. In both cases, the victims lived to tell their story but both also went through medical emergencies, which could have claimed their lives.

The show Monsters inside of me is doing its part to educate all of us on the dangers of these parasites. I highly encourage all of you reading this to watch the show. It's a family show and it's a great way for our children to learn right along with us parents. There are so many types of parasites in dirty water but sometimes even clean water has these monsters that are waiting to do you harm.

The best defense to safeguard yourself and your family against these parasites is to wear shoes, long pants, and shirts with long sleeves when out in nature. Many parasites are found in undercooked pork and other meat, so be sure to prepare meat at safe temperatures. Several parasites are found in outdoor water sources so please do not partake of these sources, no matter how inviting it may seem.
