Children do love to watch TV although I would never recommend it as a main pass time. Children learn when they see. Whatever they see on TV they will remember and possibly act out. They'll mimic behaviors and share their knowledge with their friends. This could be a good thing, or a bad thing depending on what your kids are allowed to watch.
Parental discretion is the only way to allow children to watch appropriate tv shows, programs, cartoons, or movies. All shows and movies have been rated. There's G for general audience. These are best for kids. PG which suggests parental guidance as some content in the show or movie is not suitable for children. This means they can watch it but you need to be there making sure that certain parts are censored, explained, or fast forwarded through. You can also turn it off if you see something you just don't think your kids should see. There's PG 13 ratings as well. These means that if your child is under thirteen the material may not be something you want them to see. It may contain violence, nudity or worse. Some PG 13 movies are not that bad where as others really are closer to a R rating. R stands for restricted. That means just don't let your kids watch it at all.
Cartoons are also rated. Not all cartoons are funny. There are some on cartoon network that the kids love but at the same time contain rude humor and kids just being mean. We are, as parents, trying to teach our children good things not bad ones. Niceness not meanness. Not all cartoons are kid friendly believe it or not. Make sure you check the rating of your child favorite cartoons and use parental discretion.
Cartoons, TV shows, and movies are rated for a reason. Parents need to be aware that the reason is that not all television and not all movies are okay for kids to view. Some teach children things that they just shouldn't know. Pay close attention to hat your k8ids are watching. Use parental discretion and limit television time. There are many more enriching and more beneficial things that children should be doing rather than watching TV. All kids love TV though, just limit their time and use parental discretion when parental discretion is advised.
