We mourned innocence lost,
marveled at knowledge gained.
Such a major metamorphosis,
yet one thing remains unchanged -
parental love never fades,
only finds courage to let go.
No longer a feather on a chain,
you have plans and dreams to sow.
We watched you fly away;
you quickly learned to soar.
Still, we look forward to the day
you'll walk back through the door
and let out a sigh, now knowing
what we've felt all along -
out of all the destinations in this world,
none could ever compare to home.

Post a CommentWOW! WHAT A AMAZING POEM!
Very nice poem.
Excellent execution! I love the depth of this poem :)
We have five children (ages 15-26) and watching our baby become a woman is a wonderous, but sad thing. I think you have captured these emotions beautifully with this piece.
Beautiful and inspiring. I dread the day my baby leaves us. But you remind me that I will be able to look forward to her coming home (of course, Id rather she just never left :) Well done!
Keep 'em coming, you've been hiding this little bright light under the bushel basket! (Did you show hubby that other piece?)
Amazing. Guess I never came across your poetry before. You have such wonderful emotional radar with your words.
Absolutely beautiful.
Wow! This is excellent and how I'm sure I'll be feeling when any of mine "leave the nest". P.S. It's me, Momie Tullotes from AC. I'm just on a different computer. ;-)
"Mourning innocence lost" is the phase I'm in right now with my soon-to-be 13 year old. These are bittersweet years. Beautiful poem.
