Parenting Changes Priorities

For me, Parenting, Motherhood, and being a Wife all go hand in hand. Those things all happened at generally the same time, and I was forced from being young college student, to trying to make my way in a world of Gymboree, Stride Rite, and Barney. It never fails that when something in one area breaks, something in another area breaks too. For example, on a night when I don't bathe the kids, it usually ends in a fight between me and my husband about why they are dirty and need to be bathed daily. Or when my husband decides to make dinner, it causes stress on the kids because they end up eating about an hour later than the norm.

Cooking, Cleaning, Laundry, Sewing, and teaching are now priorities in my life. Growing up, my mom was lucky if my room was clean for three days in a row. Now I can guarantee that with both me and my husband living in our room, it doesn't stay clean longer than a day, but by the end of every day, the rest of my house is as clean as could be. Those are the things that are important now.

I worry about play dates. Those are a big thing when you are a parent. Not only is it a chance for your children to interact with other children (other than siblings), it's a chance for adult conversation. It's hard when you have children to make it out of the house, but when you have a good stable playgroup, it's one of the most important event's in your week!

You worry about food. Not a week goes by where I'm not looking up healthier, frugal, more homemade ways to make food and ingredients. From homemade cream soups and taco mixes, to gifting soup mix mugs, or five minute mug brownies. You do what you can to save a buck here to spend it somewhere else.

When you are a parent priorities change. It's plain and simple.
