Children crave three things and they are love, discipline, and acceptance. Children want to know that they are loved and that their parents are proud of the things they accomplish in life. The adult your child will become depends greatly on the childhood that he/she received growing up. Many children grow up in an environment filled with abuse, neglect, poverty, addiction and many other situations that children should not have to experience. The children who grow up in these type of environments may later reflect that pain and suffering on into adulthood. These situations often can strengthen a person or destroy them. The ones who later become adults and use their negative experiences in a positive manner often do the best in life. In any situation, the way your child will respond to your parenting or lack thereof is hard to predict.
Every individual has the free will as an adult to choose their fate in life and no other person can do this for them. You may think that you did the best possible job as a parent that you could and your child may think otherwise. Every parent has their hopes and dreams that they hold for their child, and as a parent it is always important to remember that they are your dreams not your child's dreams. If you want your child to be happy than you should guide them in the right direction and let them pick the things that they want to identify to in life. If you push your child to be in sports or other events that do not interest the child than they will be unhappy, and it is important to take your child's happiness into accountability above your own.
A child who grows up in a supportive and loving environment will have the strength, self-confidence, and ability to be a healthy adult. It is a common mistake that parents push the dreams that they didn't accomplish onto their children. This is a huge mistake, because most kids will do it just to be like their parents or to make their parents happy. In turn, the child may not end up happy from this. Every person is different and it is important for a parent to take into consideration that their child may not hold the same likes and dislikes as they do. There is no guaranteed way to being a perfect parent. The only way you can do it is to listen to your child and try to continuously improve the relationship you have with him or her.
