Parenting Twins and the Questions that Get Asked Along the Way

Tiffani Sharp
The parents of twins often attract extra attention in an ordinary situations. A trip to the grocery store suddenly feels like your on display for public viewing. People will take a double look trying to confirm what they are guessing. One person may point out the twins to others in their group. Others may even approach to get a closer look. If they are curious enough they may go ahead and ask a few questions.

Twin Question # 1: Are they twins? I am thinking to myself, they look similar, they are the same size, wearing the same clothes, and their hair is fixed the same way.

Parents Answer: Yes they are twins.

Twin Question #2: Are they identical? This is a great question in my case. I do however wonder since they can see the twins for themselves why it is asked. Sometimes I ask them what their opinion is.

Parents Answer: Honestly I don't know the answer myself.

Twin Question #3: Why don't you know if they are Identical or Fraternal twins?

Parents Answer: Doctors have given conflicting answers all along. The only way I can know for sure is by doing a DNA test. With the price of DNA testing the question may remain unanswered for quite some time.

I do enjoy discussing my twins with other people. The twins also seem to enjoy the extra attention. When I see other parents of twins I ask all the same questions.

My favorite comment/question is "Oh, GIRL and BOY twins! Are they identical?" One of these days I am going to answer "YES!"
