Parents Bristle Block Basic Toddler Building Set

Fun Toddler Toy to Encourage Creativty and Development of Motor Skills

Emily Harmon
My son turned 3 recently and his birthday brought about a whole slew of wonderful, developmentally appropriate toys. One of the items he received was the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set. The clip together pieces of the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set are for building and creating and are appropriate for toddlers and young preschoolers.

The Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set is sold only at Target stores and retails for about $17.49. Each Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set comes with dozens of pieces in the signature Parents brand colors of pink, yellow, orange, light blue, and lime green. The brightly colored pieces are cute and the different shades are a nice departure from the typical pastels of babyhood and primary colors of toddlerhood.

One of the nice features of the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set is that the pieces are flexible. This helps keep them from breaking and makes the pain when you inevitably step on a piece, a little less intense. The flexibility of the pieces in the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set lets me know that they will likely last long than rigid plastic sets.

A drawback we have found to the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set is that the pieces are a little hard to line up together and get them to stick. My son is three and it took him a while to master sticking the pieces together. The set is appropriate for younger children as well, but they may face some frustration at not being able to get the pieces to stick together.

The variety of shapes in the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set really encourage creativity. There are typical rectangles and squares but also circles, flower shapes, rods, and hollow squares. This variety makes the fun last that much longer. The Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set comes packaged in a nice plastic bag that easily holds all of the pieces when they are not in use. It is nice that my son is able to pick up his Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set pieces and put them into the bag my himself.

Overall I give the Parents Bristle Block Basic toddler building set four out of five stars. This fun toddler toy encourages creativity, is built to last, and comes at an affordable price. While the pieces are sometimes a little difficult to put together, your toddler or preschooler will soon master them and will be developing motor skills as he tries.

Good idea. I love the fact that they don't always have to be wood.
