Are you a parent who is getting ready for the upcoming holiday season? If you are, one of the many steps that you will take likely involves buying a Christmas tree. If you are interested in buying a real Christmas tree, did you know that there are steps that you can take to make the experience fun, memorable, and adventurous for your child?

When it comes to buying a real Christmas tree, you will find that you have a number of different options. This is particularly the case if you live in a rural area. If you do, you may be able to cut down your own Christmas tree. If you have what is commonly referred to as a Christmas tree farm near your home, you will want to visit it. When you do so, be sure to bring your child along with you. In addition to your child, you will want to be sure to bring a small handsaw, as well as a camera or camcorder.

One of the many reasons why visiting a Christmas tree farm is a great way to find a real Christmas tree is because you may have hundreds of Christmas trees to choose from. Half the fun for your family will be choosing the perfect Christmas tree. The other half of the fun will be cutting the tree down. Speaking of which, you may want to have your child help. If your child is a toddler or a preschooler, it may be best if your bring a toy saw with you. In all honesty, your child may not even know the difference and they can safely help you "chop down," your family's next Christmas tree.

As previously stated, you will also want to bring a camera or a camcorder with you when you and your family go to get your real Christmas tree. This experience is one that should be documented anyways, but it is a great idea to do with toddlers and preschoolers. Be sure to get as many pictures as possible. Your child can stand by your family's Christmas tree before it is even cut. You can also take pictures of them helping to cut down your real Christmas tree and so much more. Once you have your camera in your hand, you will likely find yourself snapping away.

As mentioned above, your child and your family in general will likely have more fun when cutting down your own real Christmas tree. With that in mind, you may not have the opportunity to do so. If you do not have a Christmas tree farm within a reasonable driving distance from your home, your only option may involve buying a precut Christmas tree. Even in these instances, you are still encouraged to take your child along with you. They can still help you choose your family's next real Christmas tree. Also, be sure to bring your camera, as you can still take great family photos.

The above mentioned ways are just a few of the many ways that you can go about turning a simple Christmas tree into a family fun adventure. As a reminder, be sure to bring your camera, as this adventure is one that you, as a parent, will want to document.

These are good ideas. However, I think killing trees for this purpose is wrong. Come on people - use fake trees :)

Great tips! I remember doing this as a kid and it is one of the best memories I have, for Christmastime at least. Nicely done!
