Parents Gone Wild with Viral Parenting Techniques

Jaipi Sixbear

If you've been online at all in the last few years, you've seen more than a few crazy parenting techniques. What are these people thinking? Is it about the fame, the fortune, or are they just goofing off at the expense of their kids? They're certainly not exceptional parents. At least four of them should be brought up on child abuse charges. One is simply a bad example, but a really bad example.

Check out these videos:

A dad who makes his preschooler run outdoors in freezing weather in his underwear. This is supposed to make the child tough, enabling him to face life challenges with ease. Have these people ever heard of frostbite? I bet they let their son run with scissors too. He could put his eye out like that. Of course, that would toughen him up.

Parents who let their little girl drive in traffic. Now that's some great parenting there. Does she have a license? Of course not. She can't even see the road. She's four years old. Does she have incredibly stupid parents? Why yes, she does. Are they causing her harm? Why yes, they are. Please put them in a jail cell right next to the parents of the two year old smoker from that other viral video.

A dad who shoots his teens laptop. If your daughter abuses her facebook privileges, you should abuse your parenting privileges by shooting her laptop? Yes, let's do teach our children to respond to disrespect with violence. How about actually talking to and respecting each other? Now there's a concept worth looking into. While this dad isn't exactly abusive, he's not the brightest penny in the box, either. If he was, he could certainly come up with a disciplinary measure that doesn't require a gun.

How about letting your baby fight a cobra? Who are these geniuses? Do they really need the money that badly? Like the others, their video went viral due to their own lack of common sense. Have we really gotten this far away from good parenting? Are people really this clueless about how to parent? Have they ever heard of parenting classes or are they just too stupid to realize they need them?

Here, let me help.

*Tough love snow dad and cobra fighting baby parents; Let your children learn through safe life experiences, not life threatening ones. No worries, life is pretty rough all on it's own without your intervention.

*Four year old driver parents; There's a reason kids can't get a license to drive at the age of four. They could kill someone, possibly you or themselves. Buy her a kiddie car. That's what they make them for.

*Two year old smoker parents; While I'm glad to hear you came to your senses and stopped giving your toddler cigarettes, I'm drawing a blank as to your motivation. Ah, yes, exploiting your child for money. Can't help you with that one. That's not anywhere in my personal bag of parenting tips. Then again, I love my children. I don't want them to die before they have a chance to live.

*Laptop Dad, put away your gun; Sell the laptop on Craigslist. She abused it. She doesn't get it. You don't have to shoot it. Just take it away. Of course, that wouldn't boost your income as much as a viral video, but it might boost your childs opinion of her Dad. It might even give her an example worth looking up to.

I'm not a perfect parent. I'll be the first to admit, I've made mistakes. Still, I didn't raise my kids with guns, torture, traffic hazards, venomous snakes or cigarettes. Call me crazy, but I think I'll just stick to my very sensible, very average parenting methods. I may not be rich. You may never see me on You Tube. But I'll have kids who respect and love me just as much as I do them.
