Parents Sound Off About Chaz Bono Dancing with Lacey Schwimmer on DWTS

Chaz Bono, formerly Chastity, child of Sonny and Cher, underwent gender reassignment surgery. Chaz is pairing with Lacey Schwimmer on "Dancing with the Stars". Some viewers have complained , saying children shouldn't be subjected to transgender agenda . Do these viewers speak for everyone? Here are parent responses.

"If the media hadn't made such a big deal out of it, people wouldn't be up in arms over Chaz. There are worse things going on than who's on DWTS." Karen Barnes, Wichita, Kan.

"Chaz looks like a man. If no one had known, there wouldn't be great controversy." Tiffany Bailey, Yorkville, Ill.

"I was born without all my female parts. Even before we knew that, I felt like I was a mixed person, half male and half female. I have "grown" into who I am as an adult but spent many nights of my life crying because I wasn't who I thought I should be. Gender is made up of physical parts, chromosomes and emotions. Gender confusion is normally on the part of those outside. The person who feels this way knows exactly how they feel, it just doesn't jive with what society thinks their gender or sexuality preferences should be. The problem in my opinion lies with society and the general lack of education that people have about human development. There are thousands of people walking this earth that have some form of sexual development issue - they are not "complete" males or females, or they are some variation of both (emotionally, physically or via chromosomes). I absolutely would use this situation to talk to my kid, except she already knows how I feel. Life is not black and white, there is a rainbow of color there. As a married bisexual transgender (I had surgery to create a vagina when I was 13), I fully support Chaz' decision to follow his heart." Kay Balbi, Hartford, CT

" Watching DWTS can open up discussion on acceptance. I have always taught my children that people are equal regardless of race or gender. I was proud when my oldest son joined the GLBT Alliance to support friends, stop bullying behavior and promote acceptance." Debbie Lundin Braconnier, Las Vegas, NV

"People do not choose their sexual orientation. It has nothing to do with morals. It is a matter of the biology God gave you. There are mistakes in biology. Some children are born with no arms; some are born deaf or blind. And some are born with contradictory genitalia." Cherri Littleton Megasko, El Cajon, Calif.

"I don't watch it, but if I did, I would be upset because the media is trying to force beliefs on the public. I won't be herded along, regardless of what my own opinion is. I'm fed up with America being forced into a choice of embracing concepts or being called a hater. I would like to teach my morals to my son, not have an adjustment of them forced on him." Kathy Foust, Hamlet, Ind.

"How many people stopped their kids from watching because Bristol Palin-an unwed teenage mother- was on there? Most kids today don't even know who Chaz is." Rebecca Foster, Knoxville, Tenn.

"With lewd judge Bruno, immodest costumes, and overemphasis on "sexy" dancing, DWTS is inappropriate for children and adults. I have never heard of Chaz Bono, but gender confusion just adds to the reasons we will not be watching." Sean D., Atlanta, Ga.

The biggest problem that Chaz should have to overcome with this show is his weight problem, and I do hope that this helps him start to get that under control.
