Modernism and Post modernism are an important part of cultural studies. I will not be defining these terms here because of the time restrictions however what I will say is that I have some exceptionally nice paintings that fit into this artistic genre. Paintings that I have noticed clearly show the youth's expressionism within their art. From this I guess we can draw that Art as I think I have summarized in a previous post is about creativity, now I know not all of us are creative, in-fact I'm sure statistics would prove that the uncreative among us would be more likely to spend the money on the price of the paintings. After-all creativity is in-deed for the masses. These day's ironically the world is full of creativity, but I would contest that this creativity does not originate from one individual who creates, nor for that matter a single movement from an umber of artists is paving the way into the 21st century.
Movements such as the Dada or more commonly known as Dadaism was a sub-shoot of European Post-modernism. Movements such these on face value seem to be anti-art, however if you look closer at the lives of the artists who gathered together to exhibit there creativity in a controlled manner, successfully made an imprint on the era, you only have to look into cultural historical resources of the early 20th century in Europe to understand how these artists were taking advantage of new ways of communicating.
The telegraph system and mail meant that continents could join together and a universal expression could be found in art, even if the meaning was not universal to the viewer. What I mean is that art of this type was reinforced by the movement of people co-ordinated by a limited number of educated elite, who had the knowledge to focus in a way that everybody could follow.
If it was not for such artists focusing in this manner, and teaching others the methods to their art then we would never have evolved modern art at the rate we see today. You only have to go to your local art exhibition to see how advanced art has become. Resistantly though artists with a flare for; painting or sculpture, for instance have always been around. They have always managed to find the easiest ways of doing things, and it is at this level that I will leave you with my final thought for the day.
If art is so expensive then why do we invest in it -
If creativity is important then why do we blame it
for so many things??

Post a CommentParis Museums have to be among the best.
Great!!
You raise some interesting points. Something to think about... as I go into my bedroom and look at my beloved Leonard Baskin print.
I'd love to take a trip just visiting art museums. They're so relaxing. Thank goodness for art!
