Paris Hilton Arrested After Alleged Cocaine Possession, Faces Felony Charges

Paris Hilton arrested? Sounds like the typical headline of the summer. Paris Hilton, Hilton Hotels heiress was recently arrested in Sin City because of an alleged possession of cocaine. I know what you're thinking...she either had the cocaine or she didn't have the cocaine. How could you have an "alleged" possession if the cops actually found the drugs?

It's been reported that Hilton's defense will be that the purse isn't hers and she didn't know the drugs were in there. That could be a hard sell, and it's definitely one that wouldn't work in any airport (heard those loudspeakers? They say you never take a package from a stranger and keep your bags on you at all times.)

MTV reports that Hilton faces probation up to 4 years in prison plus a $5,000 fine. Of course, the $5,000 is nothing to Hilton, and chances are she won't serve any time behind bars.

Paris could get off, even though she's said to be wavering a bit from the initial "it wasn't my purse" story. The police failed to check Hilton's purse at the scene of a traffic stop, instead allowing her to go into a hotel security holding room to avoid a crowd. A female police officer spotted the drugs inside Hilton's purse. Some say that lawyers will argue that the drugs found were obtained via an illegal search.

Hilton's friend was arrested for DUI once failing a field sobriety test. This isn't the first time Hilton's been accused of possession this year, as she was briefly detained at the World Cup soccer tournament on suspicion of marijuana possession.

Back in 2007, she served a 23 day jail sentence for breaking probation terms from a 2006 DUI related arrest. We cannot help but wonder if this recent arrest will be added to her rap sheet, or if she will once again get lucky.

Now, I must say this: I don't think I would be able to get off if I were in Paris Hilton's shoes. It's a sad reality that sometimes the stars "get away with" things such as minor drug possessions and the like, when everyday people have to pay the consequences. It should be the same no matter who you are, so it will be interesting to see if law enforcement makes an example out of her or if a smooth talking lawyer will get her off the hook.

In all the ecstasy of astounding glee with which the media has attacked a coke-addled Paris Hilton along with so many stars from the Jersey Shore recently all whom are now charged in an assault case (not to mention alleged sex-offender Remy Gonzalez) one could well say the spectre currently haunting the American media culture is celebrity profiling.

By that I mean was Paris celebrity-profiled because of her bad dye-job blondness and mega-chic cokehead media-whore status? And, furthermore, was the entire cast from Jersey Shore specifically targeted for the same kind of drunk-ass Saturday night violence that every guido and guidette obsessively posts Facebook pictures of each Sunday, then brags about on Monday...
