Paris Hilton Caught with Marijuana

Jail May Not Have Helped the Hilton Heiress After All, What Does that Mean for Lohan?

Amanda Abella
Remember back when Paris Hilton went to jail for alcohol related reckless driving? The media frenzy, the hysterics? Remember when the Hilton heiress went on Larry King Live and claimed jail had changed her? All of the sudden party girl Paris wanted to help children and raise funds for breast cancer. Well unfortunately, it looks like the reformed party girl may be falling off the horse.

Paris Hilton was briefly detained in Corsica after she was found with a small amount of marijuana in her bag. It was a very small amount, about one gram, but still enough for authorities to haul Hilton in for questioning.

This is the second time this month the heiress has been detained on marijuana related charges. Hilton was also arrested in South Africa after the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup match on suspicion of possession of marijuana. The case was quickly dropped at a midnight hearing.

To many, a story like this is not surprising. How many times have we seen celebrities do time and learn nothing? Better yet, how many times have we seen celebrities get off the hook? (Yes OJ, we all know the glove didn't fit.)

With a media circus surrounding another jail bound starlet, Lindsay Lohan, one momentarily begins to wonder if VH1 Celebrity Rehab's Dr. Drew is right. Does jail actually help celebrities with addiction? Should hard partying starlets like Lohan and Hilton just skip the jail time and head straight for rehab? Its been a heated debate in the past few days with several doctors claiming jail just doesn't cut it for these celebrities.

Then of course one begins to wonder, does it really matter? Lohan, for example, has had multiple stints in rehab and yet the "all party, all the time" actress is still facing jail time on drug related charges. Not to mention, we've all seen the horrendous photos where Lohan is about two skips and a hop away from overdose.

Allow me to be frank, train wreck socialites like Lohan and Hilton should most certainly do time. They must pay their debt to society. But unfortunately, they are not going to learn anything. When it comes to stars and jail time, they only get more famous and their job opportunities are rarely affected. Even if a jail bird celebrity's jobs are affected it won't be for long. Lohan, for instance, is already profiting from going to jail with news outlets bidding over 500,000 dollars for pre and post jail interviews.

As for rehab, one can only hope it is effective.

Personally, I don;t think anyone should be doing time for marijuana. Other issues these girls have, well, I don't know about them, but all locking up people for marijuand does is destroy families. I guess I don't need to get into my rant on the war on drugs. Like how you state facts and then throw in your opinion at the end!
