Paris Hilton Decides Not to Appeal Sentence

Paris Hilton issued a statement through attorney Richard Hutton on Saturday telling the judge not to appeal her jail sentence.

She was quoted as saying on Reuters: "Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think and I believe I am learning and growing from this experience." According to reports on MyFoxLA.com, Hilton expressed that the media should focus on more important things like the war in Iraq. Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore claims he has not seen the statement and Hilton's spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

The 26 year-old heiress and "The Simple Life Star" was released early Thursday due to medical reasons after serving just three days of a 23-day sentence.

Sheriff Lee Baca placed her under house arrest, stirring controversy over issues of race and the special treatment of celebrities who break the law. On MyFoxLA.com, Rev. Al Sharpton accused the facility of treating a white female better than the other inmates. It was also reported that the wife of city attorney Rocky Delgadillo received a traffic ticket while driving on a suspended license and only had to pay a $186 fine. Sheriff Baca defended his actions saying it was common in this situation as non-violent inmates often are released early due to overcrowding in jails.

Hilton was ordered back to court by Judge Michael Sauer after a complaint file by the city manager. Hilton was taken back to the Twin Towers facility crying and hollering for her mother. The Twin Towers facility is a better place for Hilton's condition, and she will be watched closely, according to ABCNews.com. Hilton has more room than she did at the LA County jail which was around a 100 square feet with a tiny window and a metal toilet. Families are allowed to visit the Tin Towers medical ward on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Reuters.com reported that on Saturday morning that Hilton's psychiatrist spent more than two hours with her. She had not eaten or slept since entering the facility and taking psychotic medicine similar to valium which can effect behavior.

Whitmore refused to comment, stating he can not confirm or deny any medical information. Hilton is housed in solitary confinement behind a glass door. Hilton was arrested for violating probation in February of 2007 and pleaded no contest to reckless driving and DUI charges. The original sentence of 45 days was reduced to 23 days for good behavior.
