Paris Hilton to Japan: That's Hot, NOT!

Well, I Guess You Can't Fool All of the People All of the Time After All

Well-known celebrity socialite and party-animal Paris Hilton has cancelled her appearances in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Malaysia because she can't seem to get past Japanese officials. Hilton was scheduled to do a press conference in Tokyo promoting her latest fragrance and fashion products. Japanese immigration officials at Tokyo's airport Wednesday did not allow Paris Hilton to enter their country because she had pled guilty to a drug violation against her in the U.S. just one day earlier. The officials there questioned Hilton for about six hours over a two-day period. Hilton stated Wednesday, "I'm going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future." It is not known if Japan will welcome her back or not.

The 29-year-old Hilton was arrested on August 26 at the Wynn resort with a plastic bag containing about a gram of cocaine. The baggie slipped out of her Chanel purse as she reached for a container of lip balm. Unfortunately for Hilton, a police lieutenant saw the bag fall out. When questioned by the lieutenant, Hilton denied that the purse-and cocaine-was hers. Hilton was with her boyfriend, Cy Waits, who failed a field sobriety test. The two were driving a black Cadillac Escalade and had been pulled over because a police officer had smelled a "vapor trail" of marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle.

In court this past Monday, Hilton pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor drug charges from her arrest at a Las Vegas hotel-casino, and admitted she was carrying the cocaine in her purse.

The Japanese have always taken a hard line against drugs with many celebrities in the past. Paul McCartney, former Beatles member, was arrested at Narita International Airport in Japan back in 1980. He was reportedly in possession of marijuana and was unable to continue on with his rock group "Wings" on a planned concert tour schedule in that country. McCartney was later deported. The Rolling Stones have also had many problems trying to get into Japan over the years but were eventually allowed entry in spite of past drug problems.

It seems the smiling Paris Hilton will return soon to Japan. A Japanese immigration official told reporters at Narita International Airport that if Hilton had simply applied for an entry permit before her arrival, there would have been a chance for her case to be reviewed by Japan's justice minister. Japanese immigration officials may have made an exception for Hilton.
