Paris Hilton May Not Serve Her Full Jail Sentence

clarissa
Last week, Hilton, 26, was sentenced to prison because she violated the terms of her probation. Her probation was due to an alcohol-related reckless driving case. Therefore, Hilton was ordered to go to a women's jail for 45 days in Lynwood on June 5th.

However, in spite of the 45-day sentence, sources say that Hilton may only end up spending half of that time in jail due to state regulations. Hilton could spend less than three weeks or approximately 21 to 23 days in prison. The sentence could be shortened because of a state requirement that rewards prisoners for good behavior. Furthermore, Los Angeles County prisons are very much overcrowded. Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman, Steve Whitmore said, " Our jail is bursting at the seams." Whitmore also said that many female inmates have been sent home from prison after only serving approximately ten percent of their jail time.

An example of a shortened sentenced was that of Michelle Rodriguez. Last year this "Lost" actress was arrested for driving drunk in Hawaii. Like Hilton, Rodriguez also violated probation and was sentenced to sixty days in prison as a result. Due to overcrowding of the prison, Rodriguez was released hours after being sent to jail.

In spite of a possible shortened sentence, Hilton does not want to receive any favors from the judicial system due to her celebrity status. In a statement release on Wednesday by her new attorney, Hilton said, " I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation." She also said that she did not expect to be treated better than any one else who may have committed the same crime. All she hopes for is that she will not be treated any worse.

Hilton does intend to appeal the sentence and currently, fans are petitioning on the internet in an attempt to get Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon Hilton. The petition reads, " We, the American public who support Paris, are shocked, dismayed, and appalled by how Paris has been the person to be used as a scapegoat by authorities seeking to highlight the dangers of drunk driving." On Monday, it was revealed that Paris is backing the petition.

23 days after June 5th the public will see if another celebrity has been let off the hook or made an example for all of those who think that they can get away with drunk driving or violating probation.

I'm so sick & tired of celebrities getting special treatment. Paris has no talent & is use to being pampered and getting her way just because she has money. We continue to enable her and support her. What has happened to our judicial system. Are they all blinded by celebrities. It's totally wrong and not fair. Everyone should be treated equal. This all makes me SICK!!!

A good read! Paris needs to serve her full time, though. Few things are as shocking to the goody two-shoes as serving time for their indiscretions in jail.

She should be made to serve her whole sentence. Why should anyone grant her a pardon? She did the crime now she needs to do the time. Good article.
