The petition reads: 'Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebrity and socialite. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives.'
It adds: 'We, the American public who support Paris, are shocked, dismayed and appalled by how Paris has been the person to be used as an example that Drunk Driving is wrong...
'This petition is to ask Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon Paris Hilton for her mistake. Please allow her to her return to her career and life.'
It may seem to most that this verdict was a breath of fresh air, proving that celebrities are not untouchable by the law and that jail is not just for the 'common' people. For one, I was happy to see Paris Hilton go to jail for her recklessness. However, my happiness was short lived. Much to my dismay, Paris Hilton was released today, June 6, 2007. Just three days after she turned herself it!
Upon her release Hilton was instructed to wear a monitoring braclet and remain in her home for 40 more days. Can we just stop for a minute and image Paris Hilton's house and then decide how much of a punishment that is. Not to mention nothing was ever said about guest not being allowed into her home.
The Sheriff Department's spokes person Steve Witmore said that medical reasons played a part in Paris Hilton's early release. However, due to privacy restrictions he was prevented from releasing information about what kind of "medical reasons". Although it was mentioned on the News that the cause was that her jail cell was 'too cold' and she wasn't eating. It is now being said by law enforcement sources of TMZ that Paris' condition was psychological and that she was on the verge of a 'serious nervous breakdown'. Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's just release all felons with psychological issues and let them run amuk!
The good news is that people didn't just sitting back and let all of this happen. The Los Angeles City Attorney has filed a motion asking the judge who sentenced Paris Hilton to have her returned to jail to serve out her full sentence. Paris Hilton is once again sentenced to serve the remainder of her sentence in jail. Justice is served, lets hope it stays that way this time.
