Park City Summer Guide to Community Events and Festivals

Tracie Heffernan

From live concerts by Grammy award-winning performers to world-class sporting events, Park City comes alive each summer with a diverse calendar of activities for the whole family. Community festivals and street fairs ensure kids stay entertained, while culinary events and endless recreation keep adults happy, too.

Community Concerts

Music, food and recreation are the cornerstones of Park City's summer social life, so it seems fitting that at least one summer event combines all three. Plaza Palooza, a free weekly festival hosted by the Old Town village of Silver Star at Park City, has gained increasing popularity for its fusion of live entertainment, local fare and lighthearted cruiser rides. Presented by the on-site Silver Star Café and Silver Star Ski & Sport, this family-friendly festival starts with a community ride through Park City and ends with a BBQ and live band every Thursday at 6 p.m., June through September.

The Mountain Town Music Community Concert Series, held at Deer Valley® Resort's Snow Park Amphitheater, is a long-running family-friendly concert taking place every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through mid-August. A Park City summer staple, these shows are a lively gathering place for locals and visitors alike to relax outside, open a bottle of wine and enjoy live music. Blankets, chairs, and picnics (including beer and wine) are welcome, although pets are prohibited. On-site concessions make traveling light easy, and many locals either walk or ride their bikes to the venue.

The Snow Park Amphitheater also hosts "Big Stars Bright Nights," a national-caliber series presented by Park City Performing Arts and St. Regis Deer Valley that has brought Grammy award-winning artists, including Bob Dlyan and Wynonna Judd, to Park City.

Community Events

Perhaps the most recognizable community event in Park City is the Park Silly Sunday Market, an eco-friendly open-air festival showcasing artists, street performers and local food vendors, including Utah farmers. The market also features kids' activities and a revolving non-profit organization. Now in its fifth year, Park Silly runs from June to October every Sunday except during the Kimball Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bike valet and bus service is available, and many Park City lodging options are within walking or biking distance. The Treasure Mountain Inn and Sky Lodge offer hotel rooms on Main Street, while luxury lodging provider Resorts West offers vacation homes, complete with concierge service, within walking distance of the festival.

Popular community events also include monthly gallery strolls presented by the Kimball Art Center, a trail running series in support of Mountain Trails Foundation, and complimentary outdoor film screenings by Sundance Institute.
