For many alpine enthusiasts, a ski vacation usually means taking a week from the office for a once-a-year excursion. A ski vacation to Park City, Utah, however, can be a spontaneous weekend getaway, filled with fresh powder and lively nightlife. With three ski resorts within 45 minutes of the Salt Lake City International Airport, Park City lets free-spirited travelers enjoy two full days in the mountains without missing a single day in the office.

Planning Your Mountain Getaway

The key to a spontaneous ski vacation is securing the right accommodations. Choosing slope-side lodging or a ski home close to Main Street allows you to make the most of your limited time, whether you plan to hit the mountain all day or explore the après scene and nightlife. The newly constructed Silver Strike Lodge features ski-in/ski-out access to Deer Valley Resort, while the lightheartedly luxurious Chateau de Bonheur (House of Happiness), located a block from Main Street and Park City Mountain Resort's Town Lift, offers spacious accommodations in Old Town Park City.

To get the most out of your weekend, fly nonstop Friday evening to arrive in Park City with enough time to get a good night's sleep. Even if arriving from the east coast, you may have time for a late dinner at Butcher's, which serves food until midnight, or a locally brewed beer at the No Name Saloon. Just be sure to pair each drink with a hefty glass of water, especially if you live at sea level. The effects of a simple beer are significantly more pronounced at 7,000 feet.

Après Park City

After a full day at Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort or Canyons Resort, you'll have plenty of time to explore Park City's après scene. The Silver Star Cafè is a popular place to start, as is the High West Distillery & Saloon. Famous for its ski-in location near Main Street and house-distilled whiskey, High West offers homemade fare as uniquely delicious as its cocktails. Other local favorites include Silver, Club Monsoon and Bistro 412, all located on Main Street and an easy ride on the complimentary city bus from Deer Valley Resort and Canyons.

For nightlife, don't miss Downstairs, an intimate venue co-owned by Danny Masterson of That '70s Show. The Spur is another locals' favorite that often features live music. Of course, sometimes the best way to après is by simply lounging at your own ski home, relaxing with friends. Many private vacation rentals in Park City feature cozy fireplaces, outdoor deck space and private outdoor hot tubs.

With so much packed into just two days, you can head home on Sunday feeling rejuvenated by the mountains - that is, after you get a few last turns in. In Park City you can ski until noon, catch an evening flight, and arrive at the office in time for your Monday morning meeting.
