The redesigned Prospect Park bike path is once again the subject of controversy for Park Slope residents. Pedestrians and cyclists are enjoying one less lane for cars, but some drivers have been complaining about the path's interference to the flow of traffic and how it has decreased parking. There are still some issues regarding the safety of pedestrians with cyclists traveling from both directions.

A radar gun study on the effect the bike path has on Prospect Park West speeding was conducted by Park Slope Neighbors, a grassroots neighborhood organization, and concluded that traffic has been significantly reduced.

Park Slope Neighbors has also created a petition, addressed to New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, asking DOT to convert 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West into two-way streets in order to improve safety.
