Crime in Park Slope was five for five last week. Five crimes in five days (Oct. 5th to 9th) were reported in The Brooklyn Paper's Police Blotter. That's pretty good, but it could have been two crimes in five days as three of the crimes were avoidable purse swipes.

Ladies! Watch your bags, please. You're supporting thieves. Let 'em rot.

Let's see how the thieves made out.

The first purse had an iPod and $50. The second purse had $180. And the third purse had $250 in make-up. All purses had plastic.

In total, that's over $500 worth of cash and merchandise.

Ladies! Stop carrying valuables in your purses, please.

Did the gals intend to support thieves? Of course, they did not. So, let's see what went wrong to help future ladies.

The first gal left her purse on a chair "outside" of a Starbucks and went "inside."

The second gal left her purse slung over a chair in a restaurant.

And the third gal left her purse on the stoop.

I'm sure the ladies realize their mistakes. We're all human and these thieves are shifty opportunists. They live their lives looking for situations in which they can take advantage of people. If you blink your eyes, they'll steal your shades.

If it's any consolation, the ladies have done womanhood a great favor by reminding us to watch our bags so the thieves get squat and rot.

The other two reported crimes were a vacant home robbery and a simultaneous bike and scooter heist.

None of the crimes were violent and no one was injured. If we must have crimes, these are the best ones for material things can be replaced, human life cannot.

Stay safe, till next time, Park Slope.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
