The UCLA Bruins reached the second round of the NCAA tournament this past March with the help of their leaders: Malcolm Lee and Tyler Honeycutt.
The problem? They have since headed to the NBA. Lee is now a member of the Timberwolves, alongside Kevin Love, while Honeycutt is now with the Sacramento Kings.
Who replaces them?
The Bruins will bring in shooting guards Norman Powell, a 6'4", 200 lb guard from San Diego and De'End Parker, a 6'5", 190 lb guard from San Francisco.
Powell, a High-School Senior, is rated as a four-star prospect by Scout.com. He plays for Lincoln Senior HS. He ranks as the 14th rated shooting guard in the nation.
Powell is described as a scorer. He is not much of a shooter, but knows how to score. His outside shot is described as a line drive. However, he can hit the open jumper if he has to. He is an above average athlete who can score in the mid-range.
He will get better with a consistent shot. However, he is still one of the better scorers on the West Coast.
Parker is a JC Sophomore from the CC of San Francisco. He is ranked as the fourth overall prospect in the junior college ranks. He is the number one overall shooting guard.
Parker projects as a combo guard who can become one of UCLA's main perimeter threats.
Parker is a slasher, who is pretty athletic. He loves to get to the rim and score, but can also knock down a jumper from distance. He is looking to get solid minutes from coach Ben Howland in the upcoming season.
The only thing stopping Parker is whether or not he can get cleared for enrollment at UCLA. At last check, the opinion was that he would be able to get into UCLA without any problems.
The Bruins have lacked a true three-point threat since Michael Roll left the program. They had hoped that Malcolm Lee or Jerime Anderson could fill the void, but neither came very close.
