"Parks and Recreation" Recap: Twilight in a Box

Jenna de Salea
You know, "Parks and Recreation" has the opposite problem of "The Office" right now... it had kind of a slow start at first, but now it seems to be hitting its stride and drawing more and more people in. Sure it struggles a bit with continuity and flow sometimes, but the writing has finally come up a notch to meet the talents of this fantastic cast. And there's Rob Lowe..Rob Lowe makes everything better. Well, for me anyway...

So last night it was time to make a time capsule for good ol' Pawnee, and it was just magic how they used the town's history as the unintentional punchline of the episode. It takes a stroke of genius to have the obvious jokes make it, like the crazy "Twilight" debate at the Town Hall meeting, and have the subtle jokes thrown in there like the history of the town "Welcome Taliban Soldiers" and the horrific murals all over the place, have you actually rolling in laughter.

Will Forte was brilliant in this guest appearance. Of course he would be, but even more so as the Twilight pusher. He and Amy Poehler just have the most amazing timing together and it was nice to see the writing come up to that level.

Andy running down the hall like a monkey? Total wine shooting out of my nose, hysterical moment.

I'll admit, I'm a little slow on the uptake, and the whole "Jerry dressed up like a princess" thing was a little lost on me at the end with the blank spot in time capsule, but once I got it, it was hilarious. Sometimes it's just a little too subtle. Again, for all this show's "wins" it was huge payoffs like that, and the going back and forth on whether Eduardo could speak/understand English or not that bug just a bit.

All in all...great episode, and it's refreshing to see a show finally get into a rhythm and gain momentum after sitting through an albatross like "The Office"...what did you think of this episode?
