Part-Time Jobs for 2010

Kareem Simpson
Though predicted to be flat in a pre-holiday season poll conducted by Neilson Wire, the 2009 holiday spending has surpassed expectations. Some would say that this is due to the rebounding economy, but historically, job rates and income lagged four to six months behind the economy as a whole. This means that during the 2009 holiday season, we Americans did what we do best and spent on credit beyond our current.

In the advent of the holiday season, many are scrambling to pay for their holiday purchases and many or opting to take on a part time job. Here are four part time jobs that you may want to look in to if you are looking for a little extra income.

2010 Census Worker

Every ten years, the government puts uses a great number of its resources to make sure that every person is counted. The great attributes that the job of a census worker has is the flexibility in working hours. Though temporary, this part time job is going to yield a pretty high pay despite the lack of education and training needed to perform this job. The fact that you are being employed by the government is an extra bonus when it comes to pay check reliability.

Pet watching

Harking back to your childhood and teenage years when the only responsibility that you had was to keep your room clean and making sure that the next day's home work assignment was turned in on time may help you hold down this particular part time position. With this position, your pay may be a little less reliable than that of the US Government and the extra job specifications that come with this position (like clean-up) may be a more hindrance than help. But for animal lovers this may be the perfect part time position. You can find positions by checking your local newspaper or job sites like craigslist or citybeat.com and you can expect to fetch upwards to $21 per hour in the right places.

Tutor

Though you may think that you are not the smartest person in the world, you have to remember that every person is smarter than another person in something. If you have a knack for numbers, you may look in to assisting the local 3rd grader on your street with his homework. In addition, if you are one of the fortunate ones who have a degree in something like economics, now is the time to put those skills to work and help out your local high school student with algebra. Though you can help people one-on-one, you may get more "bang for your buck" by helping groups of people at a time. This position can draw anywhere from $10 to $18 per hour when helping individuals, but more if you tutor in a group setting.

Library Assistant

Libraries have been a golden resource to communities all across the county for years. Though you need to have a master's degree in library science to be a fully fledged professional librarian, there are many support staff positions that one could trip out of high school to fill. In the past few years, libraries around the country have felt the ripple effect of the economy and scaled back their labor force. Instead of having a full-time positions with benefits, in several cases libraries are looking to fill their lesser specialized position with part time staff. At this part time position you can expect to real in about $10 to $11 per hours by doing tasks like re-shelving books, notifying patrons of overdue materials or simply assisting library users with services such as the library catalog or internet.

Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve, predicted a few months ago that the economic recession that the United States have been experiencing for the past few years will begin to subside, and employment will grow along side this trend. By obtaining a part-time job, one can fully capitalize on the future upturn in the economy. If you are serious about marketing yourself for part time (or full time work for that matter) businesses like BookMark! Online (http://sites.google.com/site/bookmarkonlineinc) specialize in using social media marketing in order to promote one's personal or professional attributes. How ever you plan to make ends meet in the upcoming year, it should be a lot easier than in years past.
