Party Games for Your Little Girl's Princess Birthday

Jo Brielyn
Is the little girl in your life getting ready to celebrate a birthday? Princess themed parties are as timeless as the fairy tales themselves. They are always popular, but that also means the kids get stuck playing the same games at every one. I hosted a princess party for my daughter's fourth birthday. Here are a few unique games I used that were big hits with all the little belles at the bash.

Kiss the frog prince. This spin-off of pin the tail on the donkey is sure to have all the little princesses giggling.

Supplies you will need:
Poster board
Red card stock
Scissors
Tape

To prepare for the game:
Draw or paste a large picture of a frog on a piece of poster board, and hang it on the wall. Draw a pair of lips on the red card stock and cut it out. Use the first one as a template and create several more. You will need at least as many lips as you have guests. Attach a small piece of tape to the back of each pair of lips, folding it the tape over so it the sticky side is out.

How to play:
Line up all the kids. Blindfold the first player and give her a pair of lips. Spin her around three or four times, and send her in the direction of the frog poster. The object is to place the lips as close to the frog's lips as possible. The winner is the girl who comes closest to kissing the frog.

Pass Cinderella's glass slipper. This game can be played more than once and is great time filler to keep kids busy in between party activities. I enlisted another parent's help to run the music and had the kids play this game while I set up the party snacks.

Supplies you will need:
A clear or silver woman's shoe
Music

To prepare for the game:
The only preparation necessary is to have a radio set up and ready to play.

How to play:
Have the children sit on the floor in a circle. Hand the glass slipper to one of the girls and start the music. As long as the music is playing, the kids must continue to pass the shoe to the person on their left. When the music stops, the player left holding the glass slipper is out. The game continues until only one child is left.

Search for the princess's jewels in the treasure stones. I set up the scene for this game by telling the kids a fairy tale about a villain who was trying to steal the princess's jewels. To prevent him from finding them, a friendly wizard cast a spell and turned all her jewels to stones. I then told the girls it was their job to find them and break them open to reveal the treasures.

Supplies you will need:
Flour
Salt
Sand
Used coffee grounds
Water
Glitter
Small plastic rings and other jewelry
Goody bags to hold their treasures

To prepare for the game:
Make the treasure stones two or three days before the party. I used this recipe provided by Family Fun to make the treasure stones but added glitter to the dough to make the stones sparkle. Before the kids arrive, hide the treasure stones in an area separate from the rest of the festivities. It's helpful to make a note of where they are all hidden to avoid any being left behind.

How to play:
Simply have the kids search for the treasure stones. Once they are all found, help the girls crack them open (preferably outside since this part is messy) and provide goody bags to hold their found treasures.
