Party Ideas for Kids on New Year's Eve

Bonnie Creevy
New Year's eve is probably the biggest night of the year for parties. Most of us have no problems making plans and deciding what we are going to do. But for those with older children it can be a problem. Most kids want to stay up and join in the fun with mom and dad. However, a 9 year old does not always find it so easy to stay up until midnight. And quite often they get bored and lost amongst all of the grown up activities. So here are some fun games to keep your kids happy and entertained on New Year's.

Make a Time Capsule! This is a really great idea for kids. With your invitation, let all of the kids know to bring sometime to bury in the time capsule. Magazines, newspapers, fashions of the year, CDs, etc are all wonderful ideas to put in the time capsule. Make up a questionnaire about the year as well as personal information ahead of time and give to each child to fill out. Some good questions to ask would be things like favorite colors, favorite foods, what will you be when you grow up, where do you think you will be in fifteen years, etc. Bury the time capsule to be opened in fifteen years

Volley Balloon is a fun game. Blowing up and batting around a balloon is fun for most people. But make this game with a twist. Have everyone team up and each team locks their arms. Whoever can keep their balloon up the longest wins the challenge.

Guess the New Year's Resolutions is another great game to play. As each guest arrives, have them write three New Year's Resolutions onto a piece of paper. Later on, read each list aloud and have everyone write down on a list who they think the resolutions belong too. Whoever gets the most correct answers wins the game.

Everyone wins a prize! Every fifteen to thirty minutes, call out a question that pertains to guests at the party, such as "Who is the tallest person here?" "Who laughs the loudest?" "Who is in the bathroom?" and so on. Give a prize for each question to the person who guesses it correctly first.

Gather the kids up and play Guess the Celebrity. Have each child write down a celebrity name on a piece of paper. Fold up the papers and place them into a hat. Have each child take a turn drawing out a name. They must "act out" who the celebrity is without talking. Give a prize to the person who gets the most correct answers.

Create a New Year's Treasure Hunt! Hide a special prize in a secret spot and create a treasure map to find it. Offer clues that will take them to a new area and in each area let them find new clues. Use things like noise makers, party hats, and pictures of fireworks to write the clues on. Keep everything related to the past year such as going to a magazine to find a particular story that happened during the year. Keep giving clues that will eventually lead them to the prize.

All of these ideas are a great way to keep you kids happy and well entertained on New Year's. They will make the night fun so it is much easier for them to stay up until midnight. Let them invite a few friend's over and these tips will keep them busy all night!
