Michael Alig was a celebrity in the 90's for his outgoing and outrageous persona. He was an underground legend for his legendary parties. He lived in New York with all the fame and glamour. He had a group of club kids following him everywhere he go. He even had his own record label and magazine. But his downfall was his addiction to drugs.
On March 17, 1996, Michael Alig murdered his longtime drug dealer, Angel. Michael and Angel were having an heated argument about Michael owing Angel money. Their argument got physical when Angel tried to strangle Michael. Michael's friend and roommate Robert "Freez" Riggs, hit Angel with a hammer several times. Michael then tried to smother Angel with a pillow. Michael also injected Angel with Drano because he was so high off of drugs that he thought Angel was still alive. Michael's heinous crime didn't stop there. Michael left Angel's lifeless body in his apartment. After a few days, Angel's body began to smell, so Michael cut off the legs of Angel's corpse and stuck him in a box. He then threw the box into the Hudson River. Michael showed no compassion or remorse of what he did to another human being. He even told everybody that he killed Angel. Michael eventually paid for what he did. He was convicted of his crime. He is now serving a sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison.
The movie Party Monster is based on the novel, Disco Bloodbath, which is written by Michael Alig's best friend, James St. James. The movie is very similar to the book. The movie focuses on Michael, James St. James, and his crazy club kid friends. The movie stars Macaulay Culkin as Michael Alig, Seth Green as James St. James, Chloe Sevigny as Gitsie, Wilmer Valderrama as Keoki and Marilyn Manson as Christina. All of the actors did a great job in showing the lives of Michael Alig and his friends. This film is a cult favorite, especially in the queer community.
