Party Politics in Michigan
Political Games Destroying the Election Process, and Violating the Rights of Michigan Voters
When the Michigan Legislature passed a bill to move the primary election dates ahead, they knew they were interfering with the DNC's calander, which attempts to legislate when states can and can't vote. The calander outlines an agenda for only 4 states to hold an early vote, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and Sout Carolina.
So the Republicans moved the calander ahead, knowing full well that it would piss off the democrats, which it did.
Now I personally wanted to question the reason that only 4 states are allowed to hold an early vote, and the rest of us are not.
I didn't need to look very far to find my answer to that question.
A direct quote from Edwards which appeared in the october 9th issue of the Kalamazoo Gazetter reads ``Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina need to be first because in these states ideas count, not just money,''
Being from Michigan I have to say that I do not appreciate that comment. What makes me angriest is since when is it that all states don't count, in a National Election?
To top it off, democratic Candidates responded just as the Republicans wanted them to, and all but one, Mike Gravel, pulled out of the Michigan primaries. They have all clearly stated that they won't campaign here, and they won't be on the ballot.
Are the voters in Michigan getting fair and ethlical representation from the current legislature, or any of the currently popular candidates? Hell no.
Is an entire state of citizens being deprived of legal and civil rights, and the right to be a part of the election process?
Hell yes.
Are the 2 major political parties playing havoc with the American election process, and is this political warfare going to have far reaching implications across this state? Of course. Will the rest of America take notice, and will the voters in Michigan demand some sort of resolution to this game playing, insist that our rights are being violated by unethical politicians, and do something to change the situation?
That's up to you, and them, and me.
