Pasha Grishuk, Former Olympic Skater, Drugged with GHB

Rosa Hayes
Pasha Grishuk was drugged with GHB. GHB is a common date rape drug that many have used to cause their victims to lose complete control over their bodies.

The former Olympic ice dancer was at the St. Regis Monarch Beach on April 12 when she began to feel ill and numb. It was when she was eating her dinner that she had noticed a dissolved pill in the bottom of her glass and later there was another pill found in the bottom of a drink that she had ordered in the hotel's lounge. The toxicology tests have confirmed that these pills were indeed the drug GHB, as reported by KTVU.

I had a friend who was once drugged with GHB during a night out on the town. She had said that she was feeling dizzy and couldn't concentrate. A few moments later, she said that her body was starting to go numb and that she was feeling sleepy. I immediately rushed her to the hospital and after a bunch of tests and questions from the doctor, they came back and said that she had been drugged with GHB, also known as the date rape drug. This sent a wave of shock to me, if I hadn't been with her that night, there is no telling what might have happened to her.

I have thought about that night many times and have often wondered how anybody could have possibly gotten that close to us to have drugged my friend. After considering each possibility, I made a list that I always read before I go anywhere so that I can make sure to rememorize these tips so that I do not become the victim of being drugged.

Know where your drink is at all times, no matter what. You might think that you look silly by taking your drink to the bathroom with you, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Even if you ask someone to watch your drink for you, this does not mean that they will become preoccupied by something else and forget about your drink.

Don't take drinks from strangers, no matter how tempting it is. We have probably all heard about the girls who go out clubbing without spending a dime. These girls are known for getting the gentlemen to purchase their drinks for them. How easy would it be for one of these guys to slip something into their drink without them realizing it? If you do take a drink from a stranger, get it from the bar yourself.

Keep your hand on your glass at all times. As humans we are often distracted by different things even though we don't mean to be. If we look away for even a second, this would allow for enough time to add something into our drink. If your hand is on your glass or even over your glass, this wouldn't allow that person very much opportunity to slip something in there.

Take a friend that you trust to be by your side for the entire night. This friend should not be someone who is none for bailing out on you when the first cute guy comes along. If there is two of you together for the entire night, people are less likely to try and do something to you.

Tell someone where you will be at all times. Have a designated friend or family member that you can call when you leave the area and when you arrive home so that they will know that you have made it back home safely. This will also let them know if you are not home so that they can send a search party for you.

These tips will hopefully come in handy for anyone who is wanting to go out and have a good time without worrying about their glass being tainted with a drug like GHB.
