Pass on the Pumpkin Pie: Thanksgiving Dessert Alternatives

The pumpkin pie topped with a dollop of whipped cream its picture perfect Thanksgiving heaven. Along with All American Apple and Pecan, they make up the traditional pie trinity. If you are looking to step out of the box this year, invite one of these oh so yummy desserts to your table. The new but not outrageous flavors will surely be welcome at your Thanksgiving table.

For the chocolate lovers....

Chocolate Vanilla Swirl Cheesecake

A truly decadent and rich twist on a boring cheesecake. It is great to make for Thanksgiving because the cream cheese is on sale this time of year. This dessert looks awesome and serves a crowd since it bakes up in a 9-x13 pan.

Chocolate Truffle Pie

A simple and elegant pie. It can be made in under an hour and it easy to top with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Be prepared for a moist and rich pie.

For the Thanksgiving purists...

Pumpkin Cake II

This moist cake feeds a crowd at 14 servings. Pumpkin makes the cake moist and the warm cinnamon spices make this a great fall dessert. This is a great way to have pumpkin, without having a pie.

Cranberry Crumble Coffee Cake

A hint of sweetness, perfect for after dinner with a cup of coffee. Also great for Thanksgiving morning.

For the kids....

Apple Banana Cupcakes

Tasty alternative to regular cupcakes. Add some cream cheese icing if desired.

On the lighter side....

Quick, Fruit Salad

2 large cans of fruit cocktail

1 pkg of fresh strawberries

2 bananas

Fresh grapes

Open and Dump fruit cocktail into a glass decorative bowl. Rinse and cut strawberries into bowl. Rinse grapes and add to bowl. Stir to blend.

The addition of the fresh fruit makes all the fruit taste fresh. It's a very good fruit salad, especially if you make it a day ahead.
