Passion in My Life

I have a busy lifestyle, I'm a Realtor in Puerto Vallarta, its the high season. No time to stop and look around, yesterday my girlfriend called, she needed a phone number, of course being in Mexico the number you need is never in the phone book. I was in the middle of a showing , I said I would call her back when I got to the office.

Running around all day I did manage to give her the number, but our conversations was quick, "heres the number, got to go." After I got home, it was late, no fancy meal, put two hamburgers on. (Diego, the dog that lives with me likes burgers) I started to think, it was great to hear my friends voice, even if it was just for a moment. Hell, I would call her, make time for a real conversation.

During our conversation she said, "do you remember Mat, the man from Alaska who rented the small casita down from mine."

"Sure, whats up with him" I asked.

"He had a bad accident, he was an Electrician, anyways he got hurt, he's in a coma since just before Thanksgiving, He lost both his hands and most of his body is badly burnt, his family is by his side, so far he has not woken up. "

In my mind I saw him sitting on his floaty in the pool, drinking a beer and reading his book. Later he would get out, drink another beer and grill a steak for his wife. He was happy, he worked hard during the summer and early winters so he could live his dream of kicking back in Vallarta.

As I kid I had always wanted to go to Mexico, meet Zorro, he was so sexy. In my early 40s I knew if I didn't go to Mexico, I never would. The thought of living with regrets come time for the old rocken chair was to much. I was scared shit-less, facing my fear I packed my car.

What have I learned. Well, Zorro moved to California, (the bastard), LOL The grass is not greener on the other side, its greener when you plant it. Life can be taken in a flash, so if you have ever dreamed of moving to............. where ever. Pack your bags, The very worse that can happen, you sell everything for your dream, only to find out its not working for you, so what.

You had a great adventure, starting over again, is not failure, its a new adventure, so what.

If you butt is spreading, you've grown comfortable living day by day without passion, without adventure in your life, shame on you.

Me not only am I going to celebrate my life, I'm going to slow down long enough to look the people I care about in the eye and tell them that. I'm going to plan my next adventure, I m going to remember Mat soaking up the sun on his floaty living his dream.

Thank you Mat, Thank you DeDe for our conversation, for being my friend and Thank you world for reminding me to live with just a little more passion and adventure.

I decided to get out of the rat race, find some more peaceful way to live my life. For the pass 10 years I have called Puerto Vallarta home. Bussiness lunches are often tacos in the street or a margarita...  View profile

I'd be interested in interviewing you about being a realtor in Puerto Vallarta. I've written one article on Buying a Home in Mexico and i'd like to write another one. I also have a blog where I could make mention of your services: it's Hey, Don and the address is
