Passover Printable Activities and More!

I am all for one having something entertaining for children to do while incorporating the current holiday, however, at times it is hard to find certain holiday themed printable coloring pages or activities on-line for kids to do, especially when it comes to Passover. You can type in Easter, Christmas, or any other specific holiday and you have no problem with a thousand plus searches coming back to you, but Passover was one that took me some time to actually find a really good website that has alot of activities for this Holiday. First off let me give you the site before we continue any further. Head on over to www.kaboose.com and click on their navigation link at the top of the page for Holidays. Self explanatory from there, just find the word Passover and you will be well on your way to their pages full of Passover Print-ables.

Passover Coloring Pages:

There are three coloring pages that you can print out and have your kids color until their hearts are content. I really enjoy that they focus on the family and prayer for these pages. The first coloring page is the Passover Dinner Prayer. The second one is Passover Celebration and the third coloring page is the Passover Storytelling. I really think the last one hit home the most with me because I shows a family around a dinner table with the father telling the story of Passover and the little kids crawling all around him.

Another thing about the coloring pages link that www.kaboose.com offers is the size you would like to print out. They give you an option of having it printed medium or large. This is very helpful at times when it comes to the size of paper you would like to print the pictures out on.

Word Searches:

After you have printed out all the coloring pages you want, then head back to the main page that showed you a list of all the Passover Print-ables. Click on the "Word Search" link and you will be directed to a page that allows you to scroll through word searches made just for Passover. Every kid loves word searches so I think this printable activity is a MUST to have on hand!

You will see three links on word search printable page that says Beginner, Medium and Hard word searches. Each one is set for a different age level for the child. If you are maybe printing these out for older kids then you can go with the harder word search, however if you have younger children that want to participate then make sure you print out some of the easier versions. When you print out the word searches it also comes with a picture at the bottom of the word search that the kids will also enjoy coloring as well. Two activities in one printable!

Passover Crafts:

The next couple activities involve craft projects you can do with your children. The instructions all can be printed out and easy to follow. I am going to go into detail on a few of the ones I found interesting, but if you want more ideas they have a ton of other craft ideas over at www.kaboose.com, just make sure you click on the Passover Crafts link.

Passover Seder Place-mat:
This is a simple project for the younger ones ages 5-6 and up. I like this project because you can incorporate it into Passover dinner as well. The items you will need, according to www.kaboose.com are as follows:
- White Poster Board
- Green, White, Brown and Red Construction Paper
- Pencils
- Yellow, Orange, Red and Blue Markers
- Black Marker
- Contact Paper (Only if you want to laminate this project)
- Scissors
- Glue (White glue sticks work best in my eyes)

Now the directions are pretty simple and you can pre-plan alot of the directions on this because most children have a hard time at the age of 5 or 6 cutting out detailed items. I will let you know as I go into the direction details which ones that will be.

First, cut the white poster board into place-mat shapes and sizes. The number of kids doing this project will account for the number of place-mats you will need to cut, along with the number of poster boards you will need to have on hand.

After each place-mat is cut hand them to the children with a pencil and have them draw one circle in the middle of the place-mat and five circles around the middle circle. To really ease this along have a cup or glass on hand so the child can trace around the glass to give them a perfect circle.

Here is the step where you may want to do ahead of time. With the colored construction paper you will need to cut out foods that have significant meanings to Passover. Brown for a Shank Bone (chicken leg), White and Green for the Bitter Herb ( horseradish), Green for the Bitter Vegetable (lettuce), Green for the Green Vegetable (parsley), Red and White for the Charoset (apple and nut salad) and then use the plan white paper for the Roasted Egg (egg). I am sure all of these foods can be substituted for other types of foods that you may prefer better, however these were the ones www.kaboose.com gave as a reference.

Allow the kids to now trace their circles that were done in pencil with the Black marker. Makes the circles bolder.
Next hand the cut out food items from construction paper to the children and have them glue them in the circles. One food item per circle with the horseradish starting in the center and the other ones going clockwise around the place-mat.

Next step is to draw a larger circle around the 6 circles in the middle. This will mimic a plate. Have the children decorate their plate however they choose to do so. There is no right way to decorate nor is their a wrong way. They can even decorate their place-mat with fun things that reminds them of Passover on it.

Finally use a red marker to write the word Passover on end of the place-mat and if you wish, on the opposite side write PESACH. This word is the Jewish term for Passover.

Marvelous Matzah Cover:
I really love this project because it gives your Passover table a big burst of Spring colors that everyone can enjoy!
This project is exactly what it sounds like. It is a piece of cloth used to cover the Matzah (unleavened bread), before a Passover meal. If you thought the project above was simple, then you really haven't seen it yet, because this one is even easier for anyone to do!

All you will need for this project is a piece of colored felt (any color you choose will be great, but remember to pick out something vibrant and bold. The website recommends 8 x 10 inches of felt, however you can decide on exactly how big or small you will need this to be! Grab some ribbon, also a spring like color, foam letters, scissors and glue and your ready to go!

Since you already have your felt cut in the size that you will need to start off with then it's time to move onto step two and that is to cut the ribbon into four strips (cut them to size, the side of the felt you have) and glue them around the felt. Next use your foam letters to spell out MATZAH on the felt. You can either do it in a cross patter like the website shows, or side to side, or top to bottom, which ever way is what you want. Use glue to secure the letters. Wait about 20 to 30 minutes and your glue will be dry enough for you to be done with this project or you can take it a step further and use glitter, other foam cutouts or anything else to decorate the piece of felt with. You don't have to do anything more then that, however most people love to decorate their projects further once they start the project. It's all up to you.
