The Super Bowl game has a long and interesting history that makes for interesting reading. To help fans learn more about the history of this great game, here's a listing of the results of past Super Bowl games. From Green Bay's win in Super Bowl I to Pittsburgh's amazing last-minute drive in Super Bowl XLIII, the results of each game are summarized here. The summary includes information on who won each Super Bowl, where each Super Bowl was played, as well as the final score. It also includes a brief synopsis of what happened during each game.

The 1960's:
Super Bowl I.
Location: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Date played: January15, 1967.
Final score: Green Bay 35, Kansas City 10.

Brief Synopsis: Vince Lombardi's Packers prove to be too much for the Chiefs to handle in this inagrual game. Super Bowl MVP Bart Starr scores twice and the Packers' smothering defense shuts down Len Dawson's high-powered attack.

Super Bowl II:
Site: the Orange Bowl (Miami).
Date: January 14, 1968.
Final Score: Green Bay 33, Oakland 14.

Brief Synopsis: Green Bay's defense proves too much for Daryl LaMonica and the Raiders to handle.

Super Bowl III:
Site: the Orange Bowl (Miami).
Date: January 12, 1969.
Final Score: New York Jets 16, Baltimore 7.

Brief Synopsis: The AFL proves once and for all that they could compete with the NFL as "Broadway" Joe Namath's efficient play backs up his "guarantee" of a New York victory. Many experts think this win by the Jets set the stage for the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.

Super Bowl IV:
Site: Tulane Stadium (New Orleans).
Date: January 11, 1970.
Final Score: Kansas City 23, Minnesota 7.

Brief Synopsis: The Chiefs' defense wrecks havoc on the Vikings' offense. The Chiefs force three interceptions and recover two fumbles en route to an impressive win over the heavily favored Vikings.

Super Bowl V

Date: Jan. 17, 1971.

Where: the Orange Bowl in Miami.

Final Score: Baltimore 16, Dallas 13.

Brief Synopsis: In a game filled with turnovers and penalties, rookie kicker Jimmy O'Brien's field goal with five seconds to go gives the Baltimore Colts an impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Super Bowl VI:

Date: January 16, 1972.

Location: University of Tulane Stadium (New Orleans, LA).

Final Score: Dallas 24, Miami 3.

Brief Synopsis: Dallas finally wins the big one as their stuffy defense prevents Miami from scoring a touchdown or doing anything else on offense. It's the first (and so far the only) time that a team has failed to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl game.

Super Bowl VII:

Date: January 14, 1973.

Location: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Final Score: Miami 14, Washington 7.

Brief Synopsis: Miami caps a perfect season by defeating the Redskins with a stifling defense that proved to be too much to handle.

Super Bowl VIII:

Date: January 13, 1974.

Location: Rice Stadium (Houston, TX.).

Final Score: Miami 24, Minnesota 7.

Brief Synopsis: Miami becomes the first team since the Green Bay Packers to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles. They do this thanks to the hard running of MVP running Back Larry Csonka. His 145 rushing yards and two scores allow Miami's defense to do the rest.

Super Bowl IX:

Date: January 12, 1975.

Location: University of Tulane Stadium (New Orleans, LA.).

Final Score: Pittsburgh 16, Minnesota 6.

Brief Synopsis: Pittsburgh's defense only allows two first downs en route to the Steelers' first Super Bowl title.

Super Bowl X:

Date: January 18, 1976.

Location: The Orange Bowl (Miami).

Final Score: Pittsburgh 21, Dallas 17.

Brief Synopsis: The Steelers stop a late threat in the 4th quarter and use wide receiver's Lynn Swann's acrobatic catches to win two Super Bowls in a row.

Super Bowl XI:

Date:January 9, 1977.

Location: The Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA.).

Final Score: Oakland 32, Minnesota 14.

Brief Synopsis: Minnesota's futility in Super Bowl games continues as John Madden's Oakland Raiders use 19 unanswered points to squash the Vikings.

Super Bowl XII:

Date: January 15, 1978.

Location: The Superdome (New Orleans).

Final Score: Dallas 27, Denver 10.

Brief Synopsis: In this first Super Bowl game to be played inside a dome, the Cowboys snuff out Denver's offense en route to a victory in one of the sloppiest Super Bowls ever played.

Super Bowl XIII:

Date: January 21, 1979.

Location: The Orange Bowl in Miami.

Final Score: Pittsburgh 35, Dallas 31.

Brief Synopsis: Widely considered to be one of the best Super Bowl games of all time, the Steelers win this highly entertaining rematch with the Cowboys thanks to Terry Bradshaw's four touchdowns and 318 yards passing.

The 1980's:

Super Bowl XIV:

Date: January 20, 1980.

Location: The Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA.).

Final Score: Pittsburgh 31, Los Angeles 19.

Brief Synopsis: Pittsburgh closes out its dynasty with an impressive victory over the Rams. Despite seven lead changes, the Steelers close out the Rams with two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to seal it.

Super Bowl XV:

Date: January 25, 1981.

Location: The Superdome (New Orleans, LA.).

Final Score: Oakland 27, Philadelphia 10.

Brief Synopsis: Oakland's second Super Bowl victory is even sweeter because they become the first team to win the Super Bowl as a wildcard entry. MVP Jim Plunkett goes 13 of 21 for 261 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for the Raiders.

Super Bowl XVI:

Date: January 24, 1982.

Location: The Pontiac Silverdome (Pontiac, Mich.).

Final Score: San Francisco 26, Cincinnati 21.

Brief Synopsis: San Francisco grinds out a win despite being outscored 21-6 in the second half. A botched onside kick saves the day for the 49ers.

Super Bowl XVII:

Date: January 30, 1983.

Location: The Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA.).

Final Score: Washington 27, Miami 17.

Brief Synopsis: Redskins' running back John Riggins leads the way with a Super Bowl record 166 rushing yards off of a record 36 attempts.

Super Bowl XVIII:

Date: January 22, 1984.

Location: Tampa (Fla.) Stadium.

Final Score: Los Angeles 38, Washington 9.

Brief Synopsis: The Raiders completely dominate the game. They are aided by running back Marcus Allen's 191 yards and two spectacular touchdown runs.

Super Bowl XIX:

Date: January 20, 1985.

Location: University of Stanford Stadium (CA.).

Final Score: San Francisco 38, Miami 16.

Brief Synopsis: In a game pitting two future Hall of Fame quarter backs (Dan Marino and Joe Montana), Joe Montana outplays Dan Marino. Montana would throw for 331 yards and two scores to lead the way for the 49er's.

Super Bowl XX:

Date: January 26, 1986.

Location: The Superdome (New Orleans).

Final Score: Chicago 46, New England 10.

Brief Synopsis: Chicago simply manhandles New England on both sides of the ball. The game is highlighted by William "The Refrigerator" Perry's touchdown dive near the end of the game.

Super Bowl XXI:

Date: January 25, 1987.

Location: The Rose Bowl.

Final Score: New York Giants 39, Denver 20.

Brief Synopsis: Phil Simms' nearly perfect performance leads the way for the Giants. It is highlighted by a 22/25 passing day along with three touchdowns.

Super Bowl XXII:

Date: January 31, 1988.

Location: Jack Murphy Stadium (San Diego).

Final Score: Washington 42, Denver 10.

Brief Synopsis: MVP Doug Williams torches Denver's defense for 340 yards and four touchdowns. The game is settled in the second quarter when the Redskins explode for 35 points.

Super Bowl XXIII:

Date: January 22, 1989.

Location: Joe Robbie Stadium (Miami).

Final Score: San Francisco 20, Cincinnati 16.

Brief Synopsis: Jerry Rice's 11 catches and 215 yards lead the way for the Niners. The game is best remembered for wide receiver John Taylor's winning touchdown catch across the middle with just a few seconds left in the game.

The 1990's:

Super Bowl XXIV:

Date: January 28, 1990.

Location: The Superdome (New Orleans).

Final Score: San Francisco 55, Denver 10.

Brief Synopsis: The 49ers destroy Denver on both sides of the ball. This performance includes eight touchdowns on offense.

Super Bowl XXV:

Date: January 27, 1991.

Location: Tampa (FL.) Stadium.

Final Score: New York Giants 20, Buffalo 19.

Brief Synopsis: In one of the most thrilling games ever played, the game is decided by Scott Norwood's infamous "Wide Right" kick at the end of the game.

Super Bowl XXVI:

Date:January 26, 1992.

Location: The Metrodome (Minneapolis).

Final Score: Washington 37, Buffalo 24.

Brief Synopsis: The Redskins use 24 unanswered points to salt the game away from the Bills.

Super Bowl XXVII:

Date: January 31, 1993.

Location: The Rose Bowl.

Final Score: Dallas 52, Buffalo 17.

Brief Synopsis: The game becomes the "Troy Aikman Show" as the Cowboy Hall of Famer completes 26 of 35 passes for 273 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead the way for America's Team.

Super Bowl XXVIII:

Date: January 30, 1994.

Location: The Georgia Dome (Atlanta).

Final Score: Dallas 30, Buffalo 13.

Brief Synopsis: Emmitt Smith leads the way for the Cowboys with 30 carries for 132 yards and two scores. Dallas's defense does the rest to seal the deal.

Super Bowl XXIX:

Date: January 29, 1995.

Location: Joe Robbie Stadium (Miami).

Final Score: San Francisco 49, San Diego 26.

Brief Synopsis: Steve Young's six (!) touchdowns prove to be too much for the Chargers.

Super Bowl XXX:

Date: January 28, 1996.

Location: Sun Devil Stadium (Tempe, AZ.).

Final Score: Dallas 27, Pittsburgh 17.

Brief Synopsis: MVP Larry Brown single-handedly stops Neil O'Donnell and the Steelers. His two interceptions (and 77 total yards off those interceptions) lead to two touchdowns that seal the deal for the Cowboys.

Super Bowl XXXI:

Date: January 26, 1997.

Location: The Superdome (New Orleans).

Final Score: Green Bay 35, New England 21.

Brief Synopsis: MVP Desmond Howard's 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and his 154 total return yards prove to be too much for the Patriots to handle. Howard becomes the first special teams player to win the MVP award in the process.

Super Bowl XXXII:

Date: January 25, 1998.

Location: Qualcomm Stadium (San Diego).

Final Score: Denver 31, Green Bay 24.

Brief Synopsis: Denver finally wins the Big One with the help of Terrell Davis. TD's 157 rushing yards and Super Bowl record three rushing touchdowns pave the way for the Broncos' victory.

Super Bowl XXXIII:

Date: January 31, 1999.

Location: Pro Player Stadium (Miami).

Final Score: Denver 34, Atlanta 19.

Brief Synopsis: John Elway ends his storybook career with a magnificent performance against the Falcons. He completes 18 of 29 passes for 336 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He becomes the oldest Super Bowl MVP in the process.
The 2000's:

Super Bowl XXXIV:

Date: January 30, 2000.

Location: The Georgia Dome (Atlanta).

Final Score: St. Louis 23, Tennessee 16.

Brief Synopsis: A very thrilling game is settled on the last play of the game as Rams LB Mike Jones stops an out-stretched Titans WR Kevin Dyson from scoring the tying touchdown. To this day, The Tackle lives on in NFL lore as one of the greatest plays of all time!

Super Bowl XXXV:

Date: January 28, 2001.

Location: Raymond James Stadium (Tampa).

Final Score: Baltimore 34, New York Giants 7.

Brief Synopsis: Baltimore's stingy defense and Trent Dilfer's efficient offensive play lead the Ravens to their first Super Bowl title.

Super Bowl XXXVI:

Date: February 3, 2002.

Location: The Superdome.

Final Score: New England 20, St. Louis 17.

Brief Synopsis: New England place kicker Adam Vinatieri makes a game-winning 48-yard field goal as time runs out to beat the heavily favored Rams.

Super Bowl XXXVII:

Date: January 26, 2003.

Final Score: Tampa Bay 48, Oakland 21.

Brief Synopsis: Tampa Bay's defense forces Oakland's Rich Gannon to throw five interceptions in the game. This proves to be too much for the Raiders to handle in the end.

Final Score: New England 32, Carolina 29 .

Brief Synopsis: Adam Vinatieri does it again. This time his 41 yard field goal with 6 seconds to go wins it for the Pats.

Brief Synopsis: The Pats force four turnovers to turn away the Eagles.

Super Bowl XL:

Date: February 5, 2006.

Brief Synopsis: Pittsburgh uses Willie Parker's 75 yard touchdown run and a Ben Roethlisberger one yard sneak for a score to win the game.
