Pastor Appreciation Gift Ideas

Giving Honor to Whom it is Due

Lee Hansen

The second Sunday in October is Pastor Appreciation Day. Some celebrate the month of October as National Clergy Month. It is a time to recognize those called to the pastorate. Theirs is definitely not an easy job. Too often they are taken for granted and never acknowledged in a positive way.

Here are just a few samples of ways that your church can show their appreciation.

An Office Makeover

Pastors are so busy ministering to their members that updating their office is not the most important thing on their priority list. I'd venture to say it's probably not on it at all. Perhaps a nice new coat of paint can help spruce things up just a bit while adding a touch of vibrancy. Is it time for that old carpet to be removed and replaced with something more modern and durable? Does the room look dark and dreary because of the lack of proper lighting? That can be easily remedied too. While you're at it, don't forget to revamp or replace that dilapidated bookcase which is bulging with books, reference materials and a host of other things. Have updated pictures put in strategic places on the wall. A plant of some kind will add more life to the room. Be sure to have non-offensive fragrances permeating through the room that will give a calming effect. See what kind of personal touches that he has that would provide a homey and comfortable setting.

With a fresh new makeover you'll probably have a pastor more focused and relaxed to serve his congregation.

Letters, Cards and Personal Notes

Who doesn't like receiving a handwritten letter or card? With the event of computers, social media and modern technology this is almost unheard of anymore. Pastors enjoy receiving personalized notes from their members. They need to be encouraged too. This economical alternative would hold a lot of sentimental value. Members could place these notes in a nicely decorated gift basket that can be kept in the pastor's office or enjoyed at home.

Conclusion

These are just 2 things that you might consider doing for your pastor. Of course there are so many different options that are available. Some of those might include preparing a special meal, giving a ticket to a game, sending the whole family off for a special vacation. The important thing is to give them the honor that they are so due. It's nice to feel appreciated isn't it?
