Pathmark Employees Are Getting a Bad Deal!

Chappy
I am writing this article because I just found out what Pathmark is doing to its employees.

I received a phone call from one of the many people I know who works for Pathmark just a little while ago. Well, it seems that he was just told that he will be transferred to another store next week. But that is not the worst for him. His traveling time will go from twenty minutes to up to one hour each way to work. Here is the worst part. He is in management and has been working for Pathmark for over twenty five years. They are going to take away his management status and make him a typical worker. And, he will also take a cut in pay too. How messed up is that. He has a house, wife and two small children to take care of. And, his wife was let go about two and a half years ago. So, you know that she has run out of unemployment benefits.

Then, someone else calls shortly after that . He was just told that he was offered to transfer to another store but as a part timer or be laid off. He too will have a increase in traveling of a minimum of forty five minutes. He has a house and a wife to support. I and others advised him to take the lay off. Which he agreed would be the best thing to do for him.

Then, he went on to say that six other people were offered the same deal. And that there are many more people on the list to be offered the same deal. They are going to ruin allot of peoples lives. So, basically, they are telling people that they can take a transfer to a store that they know will be very difficult for the employee to travel to and/or take a cut in pay/hours. They say take that deal or take a lay off. They are forcing their employees to take a lay off because where they are transferring them is too far for most employees. And, most cannot afford to take the major cut in salary.

Pathmark is doing this to its most dedicated and senior employees. Not to the part timers. These employees have families to take care of. They have worked very hard for Pathmark for many years. And, that's what they get. This is a real shame.

I found this article on the Internet about some stores closing. Click here But, I must admit a while ago some of the staff have said to me that there was rumors of stores closing and that some of them would loose their jobs. I just never thought it would be that bad. They belong to a union. I thought that they would be safe. I was wrong. Management doesn't belong to a union so they can do what they please to them.

What is this country coming to. It seems as though everyone is loosing their jobs at an alarming rate. Pathmark forgets that is was the people that made them who they are. I call them Pathmark but they are actually owned by A & P. Pathmark was taken over about two or three years ago. Allot of Pathmark employees lost their jobs then too. Too much to mention here. And, the media says that the economy is getting better. If you believe that I've got some land that you may be interested in.

I understand that stores merge and/or are taken over. That's fine. It happens all the time. Its the way that they are handling the employees that bothers me. No respect for their employees.

Bottom line. Many people are going to loose their jobs at Pathmark. And, those that are going to stay will be either taking a large cut in salary, be demoted or be busted to part time. In other words starting over just like a part timer.

I don't know about you but I will continue to shop elsewhere. I banned Pathmark shortly after the takeover a few years back. And, no I never worked for Pathmark but a few of my loved ones and friends did and very few still do. Well, They still are waiting on their fate this week. In my opinion, Pathmark is not a good career choice for someone starting out in the workforce. Just my opinion.
