One way to start your new patio room would be by installing brick work, stone work, or pavers to create walkways leading to the area. You can hire a professional but it can also be more fun doing it yourself. Pavers come in various shapes, sizes, and colors so you can make your outdoor living room unique so it will match you home and landscaping. Your outdoor living space needs to be on a level surface and the walkways safe and easy to walk on when family or friends visit the different areas of your garden.
Your outdoor room should be covered with some type of shade for protection from the suns rays be it a roof, pergola, umbrella, or awning. One idea for some shade is a roll out awning that can be attached to the house; this will not only protect you from the sun and heat but also from the rain. You can coordinate the fabric design on the awning to match your outdoor living room furniture. Another option is the patio umbrella which comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors for matching your furnishings.
Your outdoor furniture should be comfortable but also sturdy and able to withstand the outdoor elements for years. Some of the furniture options with low maintenance are wrought iron, resin, or teak wood. Many of these styles are available in some of the garden specialty stores, home and garden centers, and on-line. You can arrange your garden living room furniture in the patio living room much in the same manner as the inside. Your seating needs to be adequate for your entire family along with being able to accommodate a few visitors for outdoor gatherings.
The seats of your furniture can be much more comfortable with colorful cushions or throw pillows that can be interchanged for setting a completely different mood. Your cushions and pillows can be stored in a water proof storage bench or the garage when not in use to protect them from the elements. You can even use the storage bench as a coffee table for you patio living room.
By using container plants such as flowers, herbs, and vegetables will keep the outdoor living room colorful and lively. A weed control can be used to keep weeds and unwanted grass from growing between your pavers. You can also plant low growing herbs such as tyme between the pavers to keep the area looking green. The less maintenance you have in your garden the more time you will have just enjoying your new outdoor room.
For added pleasure string some twinkling lights for atmosphere or some inexpensive solar yard lights around your patio living room. Solar lights are easy to install and make sure the solar panels are in an area that receives enough sunlight to power them in the evening. Now you have added your patio living room with all the designer ideas you wanted so enjoy as much time as possible in the great outdoors.
