Patrick Swayze Loses Battle with Pancreatic Cancer at Age 57

CNN News AC 360 reported that television, movie and Broadway dancer/actor Patrick Swayze died on the evening of 14 September 2009 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January of 2008 and in spite of a survival rate of approximately 5.5 percent, he remained optimistic about his recovery. Patrick is survived by his wife Lisa Niemi who he married on June 12, 1975 and older brother Don Swayze. Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi had no children.

Patrick Swayze was the born on 18 August 1952 in Houston, Texas. He was the son of (mother) Patsy Swayze, a famous choreographer and (father) Jesse Wayne Swayze, a chemical plant engineer in Houston, Texas. He began his career in the Broadway production of "Grease" and starred in many movies including The Outsiders, Point Break, Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Road House, To Wong Foo, and Next of Kin. He also made several appearances on Saturday Night Live and was recently engaged in the television series, The Beast. Patrick Swayze was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards as well as an MTV Movie Award. Among the awards the he won include the Aftonbladet TV Prize, the BMI Film and TV Award and received a Star on the Walk of Fame in August of 1997. Patrick Swayze received formal dance training from the Harness Ballet School as well as the Joffrey Ballet School.
