Patriotic Pinwheel Bracelet
Make a Simple Parade Accessory to Show Off Your Love of the Red, White and Blue
The basic design is red and white pinwheel flanked by white buttons strung on a blue ribbon. Teens, tweens, and adults can easily complete this project in 20 minutes or less. If you reuse materials that are already on hand, like salvaged buttons, your cost may go down to almost nothing. If bought new, the estimated cost for materials is about $1.00 per bracelet. Here's how to get it done.
You will need:
- red felt
- white paper
- 6 white buttons
- blue ribbon
- glue
- scissors
Directions:
1. Cut a square of red felt of the size you desire. Cut a slightly smaller square of white paper.
2. Glue to paper to the felt. Cut four slits, from each corner to near the center of the pinwheel.
3. Fold in alternating corners to the center. Glue together to secure into the pinwheel shape.
4. Cut a length of ribbon three times as long as your wrist circumference. Thread six buttons onto the ribbon.
5. Tie the pinwheel behind one of the middle buttons. Knot securely.
6. Move the nearest two buttons on either side of the pinwheel until they are evenly spaced. Check to see if you like how the bracelet looks on your wrist.
7. Tie the sixth button near the desired length of the bracelet. Knot securely and trim the excess ribbon once you are sure of the fit.
8. On the opposite end of of the ribbon, tie a slip knot. This will loop over the sixth button on the other end. Trim the excess ribbon after checking the fit of the bracelet on your wrist.
OPTIONAL: Use a sealant like Mod Podge to coat the paper and make it more durable.
A homemade patriotic pinwheel bracelet is the perfect accessory for the next parade or party you attend. You do not have to spend a lot of time or money to create something to wear that accents any outfit. Add a red, white, and blue pinwheel bracelet and everyone will see you are ready to celebrate America.
